When Nimitz Class captured the Native Dancer Stakes at Laurel Park on April 29, he was winning his fourth Stakes race in his last five starts. He bested the fields in the Robert T. Manfuso Stakes on December 30, 2022, the John B. Campbell on February 18 and the Harrison E. Johnson Memorial on March 18. All of these races were held at Laurel Park. Nimitz Class has since won an Allowance race at PARX on May 22.

A graduate of Randy and Kala Rentz’s training center in Erhardt, SC, Nimitz Class dueled early on between foes in the Native Dancer before opening up a large lead. His mind may have wandered some during the stretch run as his lead started to shrink but he held on to win by 2 ¾ lengths.

Nimitz Class is a four-year-old son of Munnings out of Five Diamonds by Flatter. He was bred and is owned by Tom Coulter. The trainer is Bruce Kravets. In 16 lifetime starts, Nimitz Class has recorded 10 wins and $464,880 in earnings. Nimitz Class was named Pennsylvania-bred 3-Year-Old Male of the Year.
SC Equine Advancement Act Update
The 125th South Carolina legislative session has wrapped up. The S.C. Equine Advancement Act was passed by the House of Representatives, but time ran out before it came to a Senate vote. This was the first year of the two-year session and Senators will be able to pick up where they left off on the bill in 2024.

Over the past few months, we’ve seen an outpouring of support for the S.C. Equine Advancement Act from horse enthusiasts, equine-based organizations, and a large number of South Carolina legislators. We are happy where we are in getting the bill passed by the House of Representatives and to the floor of the Senate.

We are confident as we enter the “legislative offseason,” and plan to continue gaining further legislative and public support for the S.C. Equine Advancement Act. We will now begin to prepare for the 2024 legislative session through grassroots and public relations activities.

Taylor Kingsley Rides Winner in Ireland

On Friday, June 2, Taylor Kingsley won her debut to Irish racing at Tramore for trainer Shark Hanlon. Taylor rode Chef D’Etat to a neck victory at 33-1 odds. She is the first United States jockey to ride a winner in Ireland. Taylor is the daughter of SCTOBA members Arch and Wendy Kingsley who have a training farm in Camden. Chef D’Etat is owned by SCTOBA member Pierre Manigault who lives in Charleston and is a longtime client of Kingsley’s owning several steeplechase horses.

Taylor Kingsley’s career consists of 11 rides, 9 of which have been victories. Following this win, Kingsley commented, “This is a dream come true. Shark was the man who masterminded it all. I haven’t been over here long but I have loved it.”

The plan for Chef D’Etat is to run once more this summer in Ireland and then come to the United States and join Arch Kingsley’s stable.
