Final Details for Thanksgiving Break Departure
Be sure to review the overview from the deans about Thanksgiving Break travel. Prior to break, dorms will be thoroughly cleaned by our students and spaces will be reviewed for a fire inspection occurring over break. The schedule for cleaning is:

  • Nov. 13 from 9 to 10 p.m. — formal dorm clean with an emphasis on fire inspection items
  • Nov. 18 from 9 to 10 p.m. — formal dorm clean with an emphasis on packing and removing all trash/food from the dorm
  • Nov. 19 after classes — final sweep and student check out with dorm parent
The Peer Advisors enjoyed a visit from service dog Hoops last night. The canine will be doing drop-in, de-stress sessions with students on campus in the future!
Student Survey
We are planning to survey the student body on Nov. 15 using the Challenge Success Survey through REACH. We hope to gain data that will help inform us how the student body is feeling and how we can best improve our programming on campus. The Challenge Success team is a great partner for this work as they will help us make sense of our data and provide Brooks with suggestions for programmatic changes based on student responses.

Please review the Challenge Success information. If you do not consent to your student participating, fill out the parent form and email it to Dean of Students Ingrid Knowles.
Community Service Clothing Drive
Brooks School's community service program will be hosting a clothing drive for the Community Giving Tree. The Community Giving Tree provides low-income families with basic necessities including clothing, diapers and baby supplies. Every year the organization distributes basic necessities to more than 12,000 children in northeastern Massachusetts.

This year, Brooks will help by hosting a clothing donation drive from Nov. 14 through Nov.19 and after Thanksgiving Break from Nov. 28 through Nov. 30.

Items requested: baby wipes, diapers (6,5,4) pajamas, winter clothing and coats (sizes infant to teen). New items, please. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Director of Community Service Ashley Johnston.
Weekend Bulletin
Following an afternoon of games at Tabor on Saturday, the two big events at Brooks are the final showing of Arsenic and Old Lace at 7:30 pm and the first open house in the renovated Head of School's House. Check out the Weekend Bulletin for all the details.
Academics
A Community Weekend Bonus!
At Chapel on Monday, Sarah Benjavitvilai '23 announced a plan that she developed alongside the department chairs and academic office. Benjavitvilai thought it would be valuable for students to be able to spend more time together on this upcoming Community Weekend and advocated for a weekend without homework. Happily, teachers and administrators agreed — and students will not have homework on Saturday and Sunday nights this weekend!
Alumni Zoomed with the class of 2023 to share their personal experiences in the college application process and offer reassurance during a special event on campus this past Tuesday.

December Exhibitions of Learning (EOLs)
Exhibitions of Learning (EOLs) make up the last week of classes before we depart for Winter Break. An EOL is a debate, discourse, presentation, portfolio, test, exam or other class experience that occurs in special, extended A-H blocks from Dec. 10 through Dec. 15. Every major course has an EOL.

  • We are happy to share the Dec. EOL Period schedule with you here, which also includes some important student reminders. Attendance is required for all students during the EOL period and elective absences or early departures will only be permitted in extremely extenuating circumstances.

  • Please note that attendance is also required at the formal dinner and Lessons and Carols on the evening of Dec. 15.

  • In early Dec., the deans of students will collect student travel plans for Winter Break.

For questions about EOLs, please contact Academic Dean Currie Joya Huntington. For questions about attendance and travel regarding Winter Break, please contact Deans of Students Ingrid Knowles and Patrick Forrest.
