November 13, 2022 | Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost

Down to the Final Four!

Thanks for your patience and support as we close in on our ambitious participation goal of 150 households pledging. Your generosity has brought us within striking distance, with only four more pledges needed. As such, if you haven't already, would you consider making a pledge of any amount for the 2023 year? Thank you!

Join us this Sunday!

First Friday Book Group

Outreach: Service to the Community

November Outreach Campaign: CAG

This holiday season, we are again collecting new toys for families of individuals dealing with recovery from addictions. Toys for children up to age 14 will be accepted, with special thanks to those targeting the 3- to 10-year-old group. Look for the red toy box in the Outreach Donation corner on your way to the Parish Hall until December 4.

While toys are preferred, all Outreach financial donations will also go towards this effort, so please feel free to donate online or drop a check in the collection plate. If you are interested in helping us turn financial donations into toys in early December, please contact Carol Knight.

Afghan Days, Arabian Nights Concert

Join fellow parishioners at an Alexandria Symphony Orchestra concert this Saturday, November 12, featuring an Afghan couple being helped by Good Neighbors Capitol Hill. Hamid Habib Zada will be playing the Tabla, and his wife, Negin Khpalwak, is guest conductor. The concert comes just over a year after Negin, Hamid, and thousands of other Afghan refugees arrived in the United States. One hundred of those refugees will also be attending this concert. It will be a special evening, and all are welcome. Find out more and purchase tickets here!

Quilt Raffle Tickets Now Available

Now in its 39th year, the Christ Church & Community quilters will auction its annual quilt, titled "Jewels of Africa," with 2022 proceeds supporting Buenos Vecinos Central America, whose organizers work in some of the most impoverished areas of Guatemala & Honduras to support healthcare, education, and housing. The 90"x90" quilt features bright & bold batiks made of African wax textiles, and is machine-quilted in a pattern reminiscent of Saharan winds. Raffle tickets cost $10 for a book of 6 (not tax deductible), and general donations are always welcome. Raffle drawing held at 7 p.m. on December 3, and winner need not be present to win, so tell your friends. Additional info available in outreach corner.

Thank you, Good Samaritans!

The CC+WP basket-A Quartet of Cuisines -was a hit at the Gala Silent Auction, and the watch party generated $950 in direct donations to SMGW. Many thanks to all who participated and donated.

Sermon Spotlight

"Our religion is not about achieving perfection — or obeying certain rules to get to heaven — but is about waking up to and then participating in the journey of resurrection." Listen to Rev. John remind us that our darkness can lead towards light, and that those who have gone before us can help reveal that way of love.

Past sermons are always on our website.
