Spring Lake Township is continuing to plan for a more resilient coastline, and the public is invited to attend a presentation and provide input. The presentation will be part of the December Planning Commission meeting:

Ever-changing lake levels and coastal dynamics are forcing shoreline communities to reevaluate how they manage land use, new development and infrastructure. Spring Lake Township is the recipient of a Coastal Community Resilience Matching Grant through the nonprofit Land Information Access Association (LIAA), sponsored by Michigan’s Coastal Management Program. The goal of this program is to help citizens, local officials, municipal staff and other stakeholders address these dynamic challenges and build greater resiliency in the community.

 

The presentation is an opportunity for the public to provide input on updates to the township’s master plan. Citizens can get more information on the project website at resilientmichigan.org/springlake, where there is also a comment form. The statewide Coastal Community Resilience Matching Grant program is engaging with communities on all of Michigan’s Great Lakes shorelines. Financial assistance for this project is provided by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, Water Resources Division, Michigan Coastal Management Program through funding provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce.
