WRS Rosh Chodesh

A Special Holiday for Women

The Rosh Chodesh Group

Next meeting: Tuesday, June 6

2:00pm - 3:30pm on Zoom

“Whoever blesses the moon in its time welcomes

the presence of the Schechina (female Devine presence).”

In Sivan we look at the story of Ruth and her decision to embrace Judaism. Her relationship to Naomi leads to a conversation about women’s bonds with each other. Ruth’s story also sparks conversation about the choices that Jews by Choice make. We’ll look at the human zodiac sign, Gemini, twins, and how it connects to receiving the Torah. How much would you pay for the 10 Commandments? After the Sivan discussion, we’ll have an open conversation about the form and content participants want for future gatherings.

Please join us this month for another lively discussion. Everyone is welcome.

WRS Board Update

Thank you and sincere gratitude to WRS Board members Laura J. Giacomini and Fanny Stein for their many years of distinguished service and for their high level of commitment to the Women of Rodef Sholom. They will be stepping off the WRS Board at the end of June 2023 after serving consecutive terms and being of loyal service to the WRS Board for many years. Although Laura and Fanny will be greatly missed as active Board members, WRS is extremely grateful for their many years of service to the Women of Rodef Sholom, especially during the past few transitional years. We are honored that they are choosing to continue to lend their expertise and talents to benefit Women of Rodef Sholom. Laura and Fanny are both recognized for their service and dedication to WRS, and their legacies will remain in our hearts! Mazel tov to Laura and Fanny on their retirement from the WRS Board of Directors.

Laura J. Giacomini, First VP and VP of Programming & Social Justice is recognized for her strong organization and technical skills, her professional and stellar leadership, and for her exemplary service on behalf of WRS, and as Chair of the Programming and Social Justice Team. Laura led Programming through some of the most challenging years for event planning. She did so with enthusiasm, grace, and in such a collaborative and competent manner. Her team organized and led many new and engaging programs that were both interesting and accessible to members and the community at large. Laura has a passion for Social Justice in both her professional and volunteer capacities and worked with the team to include social justice elements to many programs. Laura's coordination of Programming's event promotion during her tenure was greatly appreciated. Laura will continue to contribute to WRS in her capacity as Event Promotion coordinator, within the scope of the WRS Publicity committee.

Fanny Stein, Co-VP of Membership is recognized for her strong engagement, her vast experience with WRS, and for her many years of dedicated and loyal service on behalf of WRS Board of Directors, as co-chair of the WRS Membership Committee and in previous positions on the WRS Board. Fanny co-lead Membership through the same transitional period and helped implement new ways for members to engage, to make connections and to socialize in small group activities. This model will continue to be at the heart of WRS Membership activities. Fanny simultaneously maintained her role as Gift Shop Volunteer Coordinator. Fanny will continue on in this capacity within the auspices of the Gift Shop committee.

Welcome and Mazel Tov to WRS Board and committee members appointed by the WRS Board of Directors to serve the remainder of 2022 - 2024 terms for Programming and Membership offices.

Pleased to share that they will assume their new roles beginning July 1, 2023 through the end of the term

June 30, 2024.

They did a wonderful job in creating a lovely space for learning, sharing and discussion within this group. Mazel Tov to Sara and Diane as they embark on new directions and look to others to take on the coordination of this ongoing group. If you’d like to coordinate or co-coordinate the group with someone, please contact [email protected]. WRS is looking for your leadership!

WRS luncheon outing

We traveled together on the SMART train and enjoyed lunch at Grossman's - a New York style deli in Santa Rosa.

Comments on the day:

“This was my first gathering with WRS, but it won’t be my last. It was enjoyable in every way. So happy to meet all of you, and I look forward to seeing you again.”

“It was a pleasure to meet so many new people and to visit with dear friends. I loved hearing your cooking and New York deli stories prompted by the delicious food at Grossman's!”
