Headline Recap:

  • StoneX’s customer yield survey published today records a 182.3 bu/acre yield for corn which is 1.3 bu above the trend yield the USDA has been using since February.  The USDA’s trend yield on beans is 52 while the survey’s resulting yield is 52.6 bu/acre. See state-by-state breakdown below.
  • StoneX Brazil this morning raised their 2023/24 second-crop corn production estimate from 92.9 to 93.55 MMT, due to better late yields with the crop over 90% harvested.
  • June's Crush number came in at 183.7 million bushels (Est. 184.6, LM 191.8, LY 174.6).
  • USDA this morning announced daily sales of 132,000 mt's of soybeans for delivery to China during the 2024/25 marketing year. This marks the second such sale to China for new crop soybeans.
  • Export sales this morning showed that old crop corn was poor, but new crop was at the top end of expectations. Old crop soybeans exceeded expectations, while new crop was middle-of-the-pack, and wheat was at the low end of expectations.

Commodity Weather Group's mid-day forecasts ran drier for the corn belt, especially the 11-15 day, but rains remain widespread across the next two weeks. Rain makes grain. While downside risk is likely somewhat limited from here as we have taken so much out of the market, it remains that a spark will be needed in order to buck downward momentum that has been in place for months.

Funds were thought to have been mixed with corn and soybeans thought to have been sellers, and wheat a buyer.
