Read Across America Day!
Every March 2, we celebrate National Read Across America Day to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading for children across our district. Today, students engaged with books read by special guests, many of whom dressed up for the special occasion! Students and staff had a ton of fun, learned new things, and had a positive experience with reading!
Shadow Lake students were visited by the "Book Fairy" at recess!
School Board President Pete Miller read and laughed with the TES Cubs.
Superintendent Mike Hanson stopped for a #SuperSelfie at Shadow Lake Elementary!
Principal Melanie Ready dressed up as "Fish Two" and read a story about a fish to the Lake Wilderness Wildcats!
School Resource Officer Will Bisesto had a blast with Mrs. Thardson's 3rd graders at Rock Creek Elementary!
Meet the THS Black Student Union
The Black Student Union (BSU) at Tahoma High School is a club where students gather during Power Hour to learn about Black history and current influential Black figures, and to discuss racial issues facing the local, state and national communities. The group recently held a school-wide basketball game fundraiser, and are now in the process of planning their participation in this year's Culture Fair!
Celebrating Tahoma's Maintenance Team!
Tomorrow, March 3 is Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day, and we want to show our appreciation for the AMAZING members of Tahoma's maintenance team, who make sure our buildings function as they should and that students and staff are warm, safe and dry. THANK YOU for your service, maintenance professionals!
March is National Nutrition Month! To help families in our community facing nutrition insecurity, we are running a food drive March 6–10 to benefit the Maple Valley Food Bank. Consider dropping off (or sending your child with) a few unopened, unexpired nonperishable food items to help stock the shelves at MVFB. The school with the most donations will win the Golden Can trophy award!
Upcoming in Bear Country
Congratulations to Varsity Boys Basketball (19-6) on their incredible season, and for making it back to the Tacoma Dome for their second straight State Tournament. Good luck to the Lady Bears (22-3), who play in the State Quarterfinals TONIGHT at 7:15 at the Tacoma Dome!
