A Note from Rev. Michael J. S. Carter:

A Course in Miracles

Greetings All,

There has been some talk in the congregation about the possibility of starting a study group focusing on the teachings of A Course In Miracles. This is simply a notification to probe if there are enough people interested in forming this group. If you are interested please email me at the address below:

minister@uusv.org

If there is enough interest we can talk about logistics regarding a day (or evening) and a time.

In Faith,

Social Action Committee (SAC) Presents a Climate Justice Movie

February 7, 2025 - 5:00 p.m.

Followed by a discussion after the movie

You asked for it, and it starts this weekend!

Last year’s Congregational Survey discovered that our congregation’s Number One social issue was Climate Change, and then Helene came along and showed us exactly why that should be.

Please join your Social Action Committee for a screening of "For Tomorrow - A documentary on grassroots innovators", THIS FRIDAY, February 7, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at UUCSV. Through actions, big and small, everyday change-makers are tackling local problems and inspiring their communities with ingenuity, resilience and vision. Very thought-provoking.

We’ll be serving two kinds of chili (one with mean & one without), fresh-baked sourdough bread, and something sweet before we settle into the movie, which will move you. We’ll be informing everyone about some other activities that are now being planned around these crucially important issues facing us as stewards of our planet.

Please spread the word, bring friends, and spend the early portion of your evening in Social Action Mode. Nobody’s going to do it FOR us. Come eat, learn, and spend time together. The evening will end promptly at 7:30.

“Compassion, Courage & Possibilities"

Rev. Michael J. S. Carter

Compassion and courage makes an individual look into themselves to recognize and to acknowledge one’s faults and shortcomings. This is tough stuff. Compassion and courage awakens us to think and to act in less self-centered ways. Compassion and courage connects us with the rest of our fellow human beings resulting in brotherly and sisterly love, sometimes referred to as agape or unconditional love.

If we are fortunate, out of this compassion springs forth generosity of spirit to ourselves and to our world. This generosity springs forth from the human heart which is the seat of courage and love. It is one thing to feel compassion, yet it takes courage to act on it. And when we do act on it, our lives collectively and individually, begin to be filled with endless possibilities, for we are choosing love over fear.

“Money Matters”

Rev. Michael J. S. Carter

Money is a tricky topic. Especially in these days and times when many folk are struggling just to have enough for the basic necessities. It's also difficult if you or your family was raised with the attitude of scarcity; that there is never enough. That’s how I was raised, so I get that.

When I attended seminary and began to study to become a minister, when I learned and understood more about church dynamics, my attitude began to change (well actually it began to change a good number of years before that). I also needed to learn the part that a minister’s message can play in making the pledge drive a success.

I began to appreciate that there is no separation between what a church can offer its members and its community and that church’s budget. Anyway, its that time of year again. See you on Sunday!

Women's Group

February 15, 2025

1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

The women’s group will meet Saturday, February, 15, 2025 at 1:00 pm at UUCSV. Please bring a snack and your own drink. Given that we are meeting the day after Valentine's Day, we will be widening that light by having love as our theme. Consider what you do in your life that you love to do….something that keeps you focused and gives you strength in these turbulent times. You might bring a manifestation of this such as a photo, a dance, a writing or a story about this activity and what it means to you. We will spend time sharing this with each other. New members are welcome to attend. Please email me with any questions at poetscloth@frontier.com. Donations to UUCSV

If you are someone who remits donations to UUCSV through a broker’s account, please be aware that the broker’s check does not always indicate who has initiated the check (the donor). When that occurs, we do not have the ability to assign the donation amount to the person who made the donation. If you are one of those individuals, you can contact Deb Evenchik at 615-351-4364 to let her know the amount of your donation. Deb is the person who updates UUCSV’s database for donations made.
