Farmworker Resource Program Celebrates Five Years Serving the Community

In 2019, the Board of Supervisors approved the creation of the Farmworker Resource Program (FRP) to serve the county's more than 43,000 farmworkers. FRP aims to build trust and relationships with the agricultural community by helping farmworkers understand the laws that protect them and support prompt resolutions to workplace issues.

FRP was the first of its kind in California and has served as a model for other counties in the state. The program consists of a small but mighty team of six dedicated, multilingual staff who have lived experienced, and are culturally aware and connected to the clients they serve. FRP core services include:

  • Community outreach;
  • County services information and referrals;
  • Assistance with farm labor issues;
  • Language support in Mixteco, Zapoteco, Purepecha and Spanish; and
  • Special projects and targeted initiatives/support.

The FRP team understands the challenges farmworkers face after a long and strenuous day and use a variety of methods to reach and assist the farmworker community, including:

  • Social media (Facebook and WhatsApp);
  • Satellite offices in Santa Paula and Fillmore;
  • Phone support until 7 p.m.;
  • Farmworker worksites;
  • Mexican Consulate in Oxnard; and
  • Community outreach events.

We congratulate the FRP team for reaching this five-year milestone and extend our heartfelt thanks for their efforts and commitment to meeting the needs of our farmworking neighbors. Visit our website to learn more about FRP.

Ventura County farmers' markets bring us the freshest foods and plants straight from California family farmers.
