Applications for City Boards and Commissions Now Open!

Are you looking for ways to get involved and give back to the community? If so, we have a spot for you! We’re looking for committed residents willing to share their expertise, experience, and insight by volunteering a few hours of time each month to serve on a board or commission. While the time commitment is minimal, the opportunity to make a difference in YOUR community is significant.

The City Council makes their annual appointments at the end of September for terms to begin October 1. The application deadline is August 14.

Hamilton is such a handsome boy! He is fully vetted and heartworm negative. He loves people and other dogs. Hamilton has been with Animal Services since February and is currently at Camp Bow Wow loving life. Even though he loves it at Camp Bow Wow, he is ready to find his forever home.

RFD Hosts Retiree Breakfast

When you’re a member of the RFD family, you’re FOREVER a member of the RFD family. Recently, current firefighters hosted a breakfast for retired members of their team and had a great turnout. It’s always good to see the men and women who paved the way!

Teen Tech Camp

Teens can learn how to use 3D software and create their own designs in our first session of Teen Tech Camp, starting Monday, June 5 at 4:00 p.m.

Art Camp

On Mondays at 1:00 p.m. in June and July, spark your creativity with weekly crafts in our Art Camp for all ages! This Summer, we'll tie-dye, make camp shirts, build and decorate bird houses, and so much more.

Elementals

This Summer, kids ages 5 to 8 can enjoy STEAM-related activities on Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. Build cities and structures out of LEGO, follow clues to find secret locations within the library, and create color-changing Oobleck.

Senior Book Club

Join us for a lively discussion of A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman (Fiction) on Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m.

Meet Ove, curmudgeon and neighborhood wet blanket, who wants nothing more than for things to be the way they always have been, for people to follow simple rules and to be with his wife.

Storytime

This high engagement storytime is for toddlers and preschoolers who can actively engage and listen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. While older siblings are welcome, we will focus on early literacy skills and practices. Wednesday and Thursday are repeats of Tuesdays' programs.

Due to limited space, tickets are required for entry and can be collected at the reference desk. Families will not be permitted to enter after 10 minutes.

Mandalorian Training and Mission Camp will take your child on an epic adventure in a galaxy far, far away using LEGO materials, and our Pokémon Engineering and Master Engineering Camp will allow your child to design, build, and engineer their very own Pokémon using LEGO materials.

Paddling with the Parks Board

Saturday, June 24

8am @ Paddle Point Park

Looking for a fun outdoor activity to do this Summer? Get to know our Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the annual Paddling with the Parks Board event. Come and experience the beautiful scenery of the park while paddling through the water.

Equipment rental and set up will begin at 7:30am, so you'll have plenty of time to get ready before we hit the water at 8:00am.

 

Don't have your own kayak or paddleboard? No worries, we've got you covered. We'll have equipment available for rent so you can still join in on the fun.

HOA Legal Clinic

Are you an HOA leader or live in an HOA neighborhood? The City of Rowlett in collaboration with the City of Plano and Garland will host the 2023 HOA Legal Clinic at the Rowlett Community Centre (5300 Main Street) on Saturday, June 10 at 8:30 am.

A series of speakers will be presenting to help equip you with the tools needed to confidently manage your HOA. Breakfast will also be served. All for $15!

Chiesa Area Historical Documentation Public Meetings

You're invited to join us for the next phase of Chiesa Road Widening and Historical Documentation project. Three meetings are scheduled for you to draw what you'd like to see in the roadway that honors the history of the area. All meetings are the same content at different times, so come to one that works best for your schedule!

Did you know there is also a documentary style video in the works? Come see us at the upcoming workshops to learn more about being interviewed. We would love to hear your stories, and see any old photos you are willing to share. Check out more on the project website by scanning the QR code above. Can't wait to see you there! If you need sign language interpretation, please contact the Project Manager so we can make arrangements. An alternative meeting time may be necessary.

Engineering

Alley Reconstruction: Eagle Dr, Linda Vista Ct/Eagle Dr, Teal Ct/Eagle Dr, & Teal Ct/Allen Ln

La Banda, LLC poured most of the pavement in the alley between Eagle Drive Linda Vista Court late last week. This week they have started demolition of the remaining alley pavement around Linda Vista and Linda Vista Court. The storm inlet in the Eagle/Linda Vista Court alley was poured this week.

Alley Reconstruction: Rice Dr/Tulane Dr, Meadowlark Ln, University Dr/Knightsbridge Dr, & Sara Dr/Westwood Cir

Texas Civil Construction finished pouring the remaining pavement in the Rice/Tulane alley Thursday. The last pieces of storm sewer pipe for the Meadowlark alley were delivered to the project site, allowing storm sewer installation to continue.


Miller Road Paving, Drainage and Utility Improvements

Tiseo Paving Company’s utility subcontractor continued installing the new storm lines, working on the storm sewer lateral that runs north from the intersection up the southbound side of Chiesa. The grading subcontractor has continued cutting and grading for the westbound lanes.



Dalrock/SH66 Utility Relocations

A & M Construction and Utilities has begun installing the 15-inch sanitary sewer, starting at the new Chick‑fil‑A and going east towards Dalrock.
