Meet our Summer Interns!

As the Community Action Agency for Bucks County and the anti-poverty non-profit for Bucks County, a BCOC internship is a rich learning experience. While the interns benefit through on-site experiential learning, BCOC benefits from fresh perspectives and support of our mission. This summer, BCOC is supporting 4 internships, all with different roles! Each newsletter, we will introduce you to one of our fantastic interns.

Meet Katie!

Katie Probst is an incoming senior at Temple University majoring in psychology. She is a member of the Foundations Community Partnership Summer Youth Corps. This summer she is helping to implement a new collaborative endeavor between BCOC and the Bucks County Community College, called Coaches on Campus. BCOC will be on campus to help college students stay in school and graduate, and support them on their path to self-sufficiency. Katie also helps at community events, in the food program and in marketing.

Do you know about the Neighborhood Assistance Program?

The Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) offers ways for businesses to assist nonprofits in meeting the challenges of funding local projects that benefit communities, especially low-income families. The Bucks County Opportunity Council is a participant in the NAP, and we are seeking business partners. The contributing businesses may receive Pennsylvania state tax credits up to 75% for their contribution to the project while helping a Bucks County family leave poverty permanently.

Contact Joe Cuozzo at BCOC jcuozzo@bcoc.org or 215-345-8175 x204 to see if this program will work for your business, or check out the NAP Business Fact Sheet

Thank you Bucks County!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s Spring appeal. You gave over $23,700 to support the families we serve who are working hard to leave poverty permanently. You exceeded the goal by over $8,500!

We appreciate the 720 pounds of food donated to our Doylestown food drive on June 8th; and volunteers staffing our tables representing BCOC at community events, including Juneteenth festivals in both Bristol and in Doylestown. A special congratulations to our own Angela Nutter, one of the organizers of the inaugural Doylestown Juneteenth event

And thanks to a generous community member, Andrew now has a van with a wheelchair lift through Wheelz2Work

We are grateful for your continued support.

Volunteer

BCOC participates in various events in the community, including Newtown Welcome Day on June 26th, and volunteers are needed to help us stretch our reach. Need hours for National Honor Society? Sign up to staff a table! Or, join us at one of two beautiful Bucks County farms to sow and harvest fresh food for local families.

Sign up for a 2 hour shift at the BCOC table at either Newtown Welcome Day, where we will have a table with materials, activities, and giveaways. Volunteers will be in charge of keeping the supplies stocked and neat. Come celebrate and promote the BCOC's mission to the community.

Bucks County food pantries rely on locally grown produce to supplement the non-perishable goods they distribute. All summer long, BCOC is looking for volunteers to assist at local farms working on tasks like harvesting, weeding, planting, and more. These opportunities are offered during the week (Monday-Friday only) at locations in New Hope and Doylestown, starting at approximately 8:30 AM, weather-permitting.

Questions? Corporate group reservations? Contact Eileen Hartnett Albillar for more information at ealbillar@bcoc.org

New Hope Charitable Farm

Just 10 minutes outside of Doylestown, this historic private property is growing beans, squash, corn, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and herbs for our families in need. This pilot partnership is part of our "Cultivating with CARE" project- Community Agriculture Redistributed Equitably.

Delaware Valley University

On the grounds of Delaware Valley University, fruits and vegetables are being planted and harvested to feed our friends and neighbors in need. This charitable initiative, known as Hope of the Harvest, has produced over 115,000 pounds of food for BCOC since its inaugural growing season in 2012.
