Best of Broadway Auditions Set for
October 27th and November 3rd
Do you love to sing and dance? Come be a part of Lassen County’s largest annual theatrical production! The Susanville Best of Broadway concert series is gearing up for their March 2025 performances with auditions scheduled for Saturday, October 27th, from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. and November 3rd, from 12:00 to 4:00p.m.
Best of Broadway is looking for talented actors and actresses, soloists, chorus singers, costume designers, dancers, seamstresses and makeup artists.
For the more technically inclined the production offers jobs in lighting and sound design, scenery construction and rigging crews.
| |
|
Auditions are open to everyone age 6 and up and will take about an hour and a half.
For a complete list of songs being performed in this year’s Broadway production visit susanvillebestofbroadway.org.
All potential cast members who wish to try out for a solo are asked to come prepared to sing a verse and a chorus of one of the songs on the list.
If you don’t want a solo, you will be asked to sing a verse and chorus of a song of your choice.
There is a dance portion of the audition and everyone should dress comfortably and wear appropriate footwear.
Everyone will learn a short dance routine at auditions, and you must do the dance audition and the vocal audition as everyone in the show sings and does choreographed movement. You don’t have to be a trained dancer, but the show’s production team needs to gauge your ability and know you’re willing to try.
Auditions will be held in the Veteran’s Memorial Hall on Main Street and attending at least one audition date is mandatory. For more information visit www.susanvillebestofbroadway.org.

Susanville Police Reminding Drivers
to Slow Down and Watch for Children
As summer draws to a close and students prepare to return to school, the Susanville Police Department is reminding all drivers to prioritize safety during the upcoming Back to School Month by slowing down, following the speed limit and being extra careful driving through school zones.
“We urge every driver to slow down, remain alert, and take extra precautions when navigating through school zones,” says Susanville Public Safety Chief Michael Bengoa-Bollinger.
“By doing so, we can create a safer environment for everyone and foster a community where safety is a shared responsibility.”
| |
|
The Susanville Police Department offers the following tips to stay safe around schools:
- Slow down and follow the speed limit.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures for dropping off and picking up students.
- Stop for school buses. Watch for children rushing to catch the bus or exiting.
- Whenever possible, avoid blocking the crosswalk while waiting to make a right-hand turn.
- For parents with children walking or biking to school, teach them safe walking and riding behaviors, such as looking both ways before crossing the street, using sidewalks when permissible and available, and crossing at marked crosswalks with stop signs or signals.
If you are behind a school bus with a stop sign and flashing red lights, drivers need to stop so students can safely get on and off the bus. Drivers must remain stopped while the red lights are on. Drivers in both directions must stop on any two-lane road without a median or a center turn lane.

Highway 395 near Doyle in an Eastman Studios photo from the late 1930’s. | |
Attention Sierra County, Cal.!
August 15, 1929
The Highway from Reno, through Susanville to Red Bluff, is in fair shape, with the exception of a strip of rough road that lies in one corner of Sierra Country, California.
This road is being used more and more, particularly by northbound tourists who use this cutoff as a time saver. T has but recently been called to the tourists’ attention, although many Nevadans have for a long time used it as a shorter way north, saving many hours of driving.
The strip of highway in Sierra County is the worst stretch of road. It is bumpy, full of ruts and poorly kept.
Lassen County has seen fit to make improvements until the highway through that county is as good as it is elsewhere.
It is a poor recommendation for any county to let an important strip of highway go by the board. To the average home seeker roads are important.
Sierra County would profit by spending a few thousand dollars on keeping up their end of this important highway.
