Join Us This Thursday for the Launch of
"Food for Thought" Food Truck
|
|
The Muldoon Center and the Center for Service and Social Action would like to invite you to visit the JCU Food Buggy ("Food for Thought") this Thursday, April 15 between 11:00am-1:30pm on Admin Drive.
This is the launch event of our first student-run social venture - after a few twists and turns that our social entrepreneurship students have navigated extremely well, we are very excited to share this exciting event with the JCU family.
Come enjoy a hot dog ($4) or chicken sausage ($5) meal that includes chips, a drink, and a browned butter toffee chocolate chip cookie, courtesy of Lutheran Metropolitan Ministries. We will have only 150 meals to sell, so get there early before the goodies are gone!
Our students are living out the JCU mission and nourishing community by providing Cleveland's homeless population a hot meal and the dignity of having a choice off a menu. With our Buy One, Give One business model, for each meal purchased, we will deliver one to Cleveland's homeless.

Caity Grundtisch is joining the Center for Service and Social Action as the new Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Community Impact.
Caity graduated from the University of Dayton in 2019 with a major in Sociology and a minor in Social Work. As an undergraduate, Caity participated in international immersion trips to Tijuana, Mexico, India, and Thailand and taught ESL to adult refugees in the City of Dayton. She is thankful to have realized the value behind experiential learning during her time at UD.
Caity's experiences both on and off-campus led to her decision to enroll in the Higher Education & Student Affairs Administration program at Canisius College, where she is currently wrapping up her graduate studies. Throughout her graduate career, Caity has worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Center for Community-Based Learning. In this role, Caity has had the opportunity to develop strong relationships with multiple non-profit organizations in Buffalo, NY, which has further deepened her passion for community outreach.

Our #MyMagisMessage for the week comes from Kayla Sokolowski, a junior Political Science and Communications Major from Brecksville, Ohio! Kayla has served with Fatima Family Center, Youthability, and the STEM Lobo Lab. Kayla is also the social media marketing intern for CSSA.
If you had to state your life mission off the top of your head, in one sentence, what would it be?
To spread light in this world.
#MyMagisMessage
I transferred to John Carroll the spring semester of my freshman year. I was lost and did not know who I was or what I should be doing. I wanted to help out and find somewhere I felt like I belonged. Fall of my sophomore year, I tried a one time service opportunity at Fatima Family Center and really enjoyed it. The people I was doing service with were so appreciative and wonderful, it made me want to do even more. By that spring, I was signed up for weekly service at Fatima and applying to be a liaison. Now, I do service twice a week as a liaison and could not be happier about it. I now know that I am here to use my blessings to help other people. Service is what I love to do and CSSA is the place I needed to feel like I belong.
Each week of service, the students and adults I serve become more and more excited to see JCU volunteers. They look forward to weekly service just as I look forward to it. It is a wonderful feeling to know that I am making a difference in peoples' lives while they are making a huge difference in my life. Service has given me many opportunities to work with diverse groups and expand my knowledge and understanding. Given everything going on in the world today, my new knowledge and understanding is very beneficial. Service has given me a new mindset that I have been needing for a long time.
I am growing into the person I hope to be and I owe a lot of that to service. I want to make service a life long mission for myself. I am forever grateful to John Carroll and CSSA because without them, I would not be who I am today.
