We know that there is a lot to think about as you get ready for your child to leave early intervention. It can be a stressful time for many families, and knowing what to expect during that process can help relieve some of that stress.

Whether you are thinking about special education services, private pre-schools, or just taking time together- there are things you can do to help make it as smooth for your child and family as possible.

The good news is that you aren't alone during this process. Your EI Service Coordinator will act as your guide, talking with you about your child's and family's next steps after early intervention, starting at your first IFSP meeting.

There is lots that you can do on your own time to help you feel more prepared when the time comes for your child to leave EI.

Actions You Can Take (at any time) To Help Prepare

Attend a Turning Three Essentials Workshop

If your child will be leaving EI right before their third birthday, register for one of our Turning Three Essentials Workshops. They are free to attend, and we hold them virtually every three months in English, and every six months in Spanish.

We have workshops scheduled for December 2 from 1-3 pm and March 3 from 1-3 pm in English. You can attend this whenever you would like information about the transition process (you do not have to wait until your child is turning three!), and as many times as you would like.

The EIPLP has a video, Transition Beyond the IFSP, that can help you prepare for the process of transitioning out of early intervention. It includes information about timelines, your EI program's responsibilities, and what you can do as family to get ready for transition conversations.

The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) have put together materials to support families whose children receive EI services.

These include a guide to best practices around transition, information about transition requirements, forms your EI program will use, and frequently asked questions (FAQ).
