A Message from Pastor Sara

Everyday this week, when I drove by the county building on 214, I have noticed the flags at half-staff. I am ashamed to admit I did not immediately know why the flag was at half-staff. I have not been reading/watching the news as much as I usually do, so was not on top of the latest round of mass shootings. After my quick google search, "Oh another one," was my response with a shrug of my shoulders. And then it hit me. My new response to mass shootings that now seem to happen so often is a shrug of the shoulders. Not sadness. Not anguish. Not lament. Not outrage.

The ELCA has a litany for gun violence. Please read it here. One part really stuck out to me this time:

Let us pray together.
Forgive, O God, our wrongful action and our inaction.
Forgive our silence and indifference.
Lead us in love, for Jesus’ sake.

May God who is our hope inscribe our hearts with justice and guide us in the ways of peace. Amen.

God's Peace,
Pastor Sara

Annual Congregational Meeting and Celebration for Yvette Woods

The council calls the annual Congregational Meeting for Sunday, January 29th, immediately following worship onsite and via zoom. What’s an Annual Meeting you might ask?

  1. An ELCA constitutionally required meeting at least once a year.
  2. A great opportunity to review the past ministry year with PSY's Top 10 List of 2022.
  3. An exciting preview for 2023, including approving the 2023 budget.
  4. A time to thank the outgoing council members and elect the new.
  5. A time to thank Yvette Woods for her many years as Financial Secretary as she retires.

PRAYERS

Called together to follow Jesus, we pray for the church, the world, and all in need.

Cultivate humility in your church. In gatherings of every size, teach us to boast only in the cross. SHAPE your church to be people of kindness, generosity, and justice.

The foundations of the earth bear witness to your faithfulness; the mountains and hills echo with your holiness. When we mistreat your CREATION, show us the error of our ways. Inspire us with reverent awe to honor all you have made.

You make foolish the wisdom of the world. Raise up honorable LEADERS who seek justice, love mercy, and pursue peace. Frustrate plans that are corrupt, wicked, and self-seeking. Prosper the work of peacemakers.

BLESS all whom the world rejects. Accompany those who are regarded as foolish, weak, low, and despised; reveal your power and presence at work where it is least expected. Give your life, strength, and wisdom to all in need.

Remind this congregation of your saving acts. Remind us how your faithfulness brought us through difficulties and sustained us despite our weakness. Establish the CROSS as the center of our life together.

We bring to you our needs and hopes now, O God, trusting your wisdom and power revealed in Christ crucified.

HEAR OUR PRAYERS FOR:

...Prayers for Travis Hansrote and his family as he awaits a liver transplant

...Prayers of comfort and promises of the resurrection for the Parlon family on the death of Julie’s father, Herb Day.

Prayers from the Joy Thrift Prayer Wall:

...Prayers that those in need can find us easily and get the items needed to support them and their families.

To have your prayer included in this list, please add it to the mobile app or contact the church office.
