Athanasius, the Nicene Creed, and Why It Matters

Sat, Feb 4 | 9:00-11:45am

Some people have heard the slogan “Athanasius against the world,” and a few have even heard it claimed that Athanasius saved Christianity in the fourth century. Who was this remarkable person? What was “the world” that he was against? And how could one person save Christianity? In this forum, we’ll look at the extraordinary times in which Athanasius lived, his immense role in opposing Christianity’s greatest heresy and upholding the biblical truth about Jesus Christ, and the part he played in paving the way for the Nicene Creed.

Women's Spring Bible Study: God of Freedom

Beginning Thu, Feb 2 | Morning and EveninG

Every book of the Bible tells us what is true about God. In Exodus, we see Him as our strong Deliverer who sets us free from sin and death to worship Him through obedience. Through this 10-session study of Exodus 19-40, Jen Wilkin revisits the familiar scenes of the giving of the Ten Commandments, the idolatrous worship of the golden calf, and the intricate details of the tabernacle. With fresh perspective, we learn to trace the promise of Christ throughout to ask what these stories teach God’s children today about how to live as those set free.

Hearing Loop in the Auditorium for Hearing Aid Users

Did you know... ABF has a hearing loop installed in the lower level of the auditorium? This extension of our sound system allows hearing aid users with a telecoil to pick up a signal directly from the stage. Check your hearing aid settings to see if you have a "T" or telecoil mode. **Note: This feature is not available in the raised seating in the back of the room.** We also have wireless packs with headphones which can be picked up from the welcome center or sound booth. Talk with Clayton Thornton to learn more.

Special Mention

Dear Church Family,

In the early 1980’s our very own Wanda Branch was instrumental in getting Hospice care started in Watauga County. She along with many other concerned citizens worked to get this much needed assistance to our community, adding value to services offered by the county. I am working to be true to her dedication by moving our service to Watauga citizens into an Inpatient Hospice Care Facility. I became aware of the need after our two adopted girls became part of our family and we had to make trips to a nursing home to visit their grandmother in her last days. Not knowing how to begin the process I put the effort on the back burner until a dear friend passed with the help of the wonderful staff at AMOREM. Evalyn Pierce and I along with others began investigating getting our own facility for the High Country and found out this was the desire of AMOREM.

AMOREM has been in the business of dignity in death for many years, building the first Inpatient facility in North Carolina. Many citizens in our area have benefited from the use of their services however, we are behind the residents of Caldwell and Burke counties which puts our community into less than desirable locations. There are many reasons why this is not always a good position. Besides the fact that we must wait behind the needs of local Caldwell and Burke county residents there are weather and economic difficulties in driving to these facilities. Hospital and nursing beds are at a premium in our area as both facilities dealing with staff shortages. The alternative is to care for your loved one at home rather than building special memories. Can you imagine re-opening grief each time you walk past a room where your loved one passed or taking your young children to visit a parent in a nursing home?

During this Christmas season and time when we make end of year contributions, please consider sending a gift to this cause. You will find more information on giving along with an informative video at the end of this message.
