Young Cobras take on computer projects

Students from preschool through 6th grade celebrated Computer Science Education Week, by working on projects to develop their computer skills.

Keystone's Director of Innovation & Learning, Mrs. Antuna, and the school's Innovation Specialist, Ms. Troche, worked with the different grades for their Hour of Code projects either in the grade-level classrooms or in the Flex Lab.

K9s for Warriors visit Keystone

Inspired by a Bluebonnet Award nominee book about a military service dog, librarian Mrs. Vilagi arranged for a group from K9s For Warriors to visit campus and explain their work.

K9s For Warriors provides trained service dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma.

The book, Stella, tells a sweet story from the dog's perspective.

9th graders test their math skills with catapult

Since calculus measures rates of change, it's perfect to predict the trajectory of balls in catapults for Mr. Lindsay’s Algebra 2 class.

Teams of students studying quadratic equations put their lessons in action by building their own catapults, collecting measurements and other data and then creating equations to describe how far their machines would launch a ping-pong ball.

Then they tested their work on targets that Mr. Lindsay set up in North Hall.

Such a fun project!

Little School, Lower School celebrate coming break

While older students on the main campus were finishing up exams, the youngest Cobras at the Little School and the Lower School began their winter celebrations early.

With crafts, games and a pizza party, the Little School students finished their semester on a fun note.

Meanwhile, Lower School students dressed up and delivered a holiday concert in the gym.

In-service day rescheduled for Feb. 17

Important scheduling note: An in-service day that had been scheduled for early February will take place instead Feb. 17.

We opted to make the In-Service Day on February 17 so students and families could have a four-day weekend and a mid-quarter break since it’s the Friday before Presidents’ Day.

We hope you're able to use the time to take a break and relax.

Billy's Blog: From our Head of School

“The point of the fish story is merely that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about.”

--David Foster Wallace

On so many occasions, Keystone students do amazing things. In the classroom, on the stage, in the art rooms, or the gym, Cobras shine; because they do such good work so consistently, it can be easy to take for granted the ability and dedication of our students and the work of dedicated Keystone faculty and staff that brings out the best in these children and young adults.

Having worked in schools for over thirty years, I can attest that the achievements of our young people simply do not occur in other places.
