Heart Connections - May 2023

For the pets and people of our community, May was another joy-filled month as a total of 61 pets were adopted. GMHS is incredibly thankful to our friends and supporters who ensure we have the resources to give pets the time necessary to make a lasting heart connection. May each pet and their new family enjoy many happy years together!

Visit GMHS Tuesday- Sunday of each week from 12 - 5 PM to visit all the homeless pets searching for a forever family. We can't wait to help you meet your match!

May 2023 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.

Volunteer Opportunities

Have you thought about volunteering with GMHS? There are many ways you can lend your time and talents to save and transform the lives of homeless pets. We will even provide one-on-one training to best prepare you for your new role! Whether you have two hours per week or two hours per month to share, every moment makes a huge difference in the lives of homeless pets at GMHS!

Family Fun Day at GMHS is back this year and bigger than ever! With over 20 vendors to visit and shop with, including delicious food from Creekside Cafe & Market and Doodles Donuts and Cafe, you don't want to miss this fun community event!

We have a purr-fect family activity for you Sunday, June 11!

Join us in our GMHS Lobby, where we invite you to make cat masks for kids and catnip toys for our cat residents. We will provide all necessary supplies, and registration is not required. All ages are welcome.

Just drop in anytime between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, on June 11. Email with questions and for more details.

Help homeless pets by shopping our Barkin’ Bargains Yard Sale and Bake Sale to be held on Saturday, June 17 from 6:30 AM-2:00 PM at GMHS. All of the proceeds will benefit the pets of Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.

Have items you'd like to donate? We can accept items from June 1-12! Due to space constraints, we cannot accept large items like furniture.

The perfect birthday party for junior pet advocates is coming to GMHS!

Celebrate your child at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society! Our Humane Educator will guide you and your guests through crafts and activities tailored to the interests of your child and of course, a tour to meet some of our adoptable pets! Email for more info or call us at 804-693-5520!

Compassionate Community

We are happy to announce that the Petfinder Foundation has awarded GMHS a 2023 Kia Pet Adoption Grant! We will use this grant to offer reduced adoption fees in the coming months. A huge thank you to Petfinder Foundation and Kia for their generosity and helping GMHS find homes for these deserving pets.

Jessi Fulmer and Brandi Bard-Branham with Zoll Vineyards presented a donation of $1,335 to GMHS from their recent Roaring 20's Fundraiser. We are incredibly grateful to the Zoll Vineyards team for their choice to support GMHS. We are proud to partner with you!
