Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe that more than half of 2024 is already over. Pickering Manor has been busy in the first half of the year with many changes, challenges, and triumphs. July marked the beginning of our new fiscal year and the start of forging a path toward the future. As we reflect on the last seven months, we are reminded that Pickering Manor is not an island, and we continue to build for the future with the help of our various constituents.

  • Our residents and their families, to whom we are committed to providing the best care and support.
  • Our staff, for their dedication and commitment to our residents and Pickering Manor.
  • Our Board of Directors, for their leadership and guidance in moving Pickering Manor forward.
  • Our volunteers, who share their gifts, talents, and time with our residents to enrich their lives.
  • Our Newtown community and those beyond who support us with their monetary gifts and goodwill.

We thank all these constituents for their belief in Pickering Manor and our vision for growth.

The past seven months have seen strong census levels at Pickering Manor. We have heard from many members of the community that Pickering Manor is where they want to live and rehab. We thank you for your confidence in us, and we strive every day to provide quality care by people who care.

The support from the Pickering Manor community for our various fundraising endeavors has been outstanding and very much appreciated. Your generosity helps us continue to provide quality care and maintain Pickering Manor. This year’s Car Raffle was our highest-selling one in the eleven years of holding the raffle.

Like many of you and our neighbors, this year has been challenging from a financial perspective. Expenses are rising, and reimbursements from the government and insurance are not increasing as quickly or are remaining stagnant. We have implemented cost-saving programs and renegotiated contracts so that we can continue to provide the care that Pickering Manor is known for in the community. We have also made personnel changes within the organization with an eye toward building a stronger Pickering Manor for the future.

We hope the community continues to support us and considers joining us. We offer living options for every level of care and a strong sense of community to enjoy your carefree years. We also have many opportunities for volunteers, and we especially encourage young people to consider Pickering Manor for their volunteer opportunities. Our Auxiliary provides invaluable volunteer support and contributes generously to the well-being of our residents.

A reminder of a couple of upcoming events: First, a Medicare seminar on August 21, 2024, here at Pickering Manor. The seminar will provide information on changes to the Medicare Part D prescription drug program. Our second event is our annual and largest fundraiser, Sips N Suds, on Thursday, November 14, 2024. This event will benefit Pickering Manor by strengthening our programming for our residents. We also want to extend a big thank you to the Newtown Rotary for holding their annual golf outing benefiting Pickering Manor. This event is invaluable to us and much appreciated!

As you can see, Pickering Manor has been busy and continues to move forward. These are challenging times in the long-term care sector of health care, but with the continued support from all our constituents, you will help Pickering Manor remain strong for future service to our residents and future residents.

Thank you again for your support and have a great second half of the summer!

SUMMER FUN

We've been having a blast this summer with vibrant activities and exciting events!

“Keeping our community vibrant is a focus of the Enrichment Team every day as we curate programs and events intended to positively impact a resident’s mind, body, and spirit."

- Andrea Eells, Director of Life Enrichment at Pickering Manor

Summer fun has been in full swing in our Personal Care Neighborhood at Pickering Manor! We've had a blast celebrating the 4th of July, enjoying a festive luau, and hosting a Christmas in July pajama bingo night...just to name a few. Our residents, along with their family and friends, have been creating wonderful memories together.

Events like these show that every day can be filled with joy and laughter. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made these moments so special!

Our Memory Care Neighborhood had a delightful time with a series of fun activities this July! Residents painted pineapple pine cones for their luau, celebrated the 4th of July with delicious smoothies, and baked cookies for Christmas in July...and so much more!!!!!

These creative and festive events were wonderful opportunities for our residents to engage, enjoy, and make beautiful memories together. Stay tuned for more heartwarming moments at Pickering Manor!

Our Skilled Nursing Residents had a fantastic time during our special wildlife program! Residents enjoyed meeting fascinating creatures like an African Bullfrog, lizards, a gecko, and tortoises. We learned so many interesting facts - thank you to Ian and Taylor for sharing their expertise!

These events are more than just fun; they boost mental stimulation, emotional well-being, and social interaction. Stay tuned for more enriching activities at Pickering Manor!

Our rehab residents had a delightful surprise when our former employee, Lisa, brought in Poe the bunny for pet therapy! Lisa and Poe visit regularly, bringing joy and smiles to everyone. Pet therapy reduces stress, lifts spirits, and brings comfort to our community.

A huge thank you to Lisa for volunteering with Poe - these heartwarming moments brighten everyone's day!

Our staff competed in our escape room by racing to solve infection control challenges. What a fun way to practice and fulfill our infection control requirement!

Cole, a volunteer, and Millie, a resident, share a delightful conversation and delicious ice cream during a recent social hour in our Personal Care Neighborhood. Fun Fact: Cole is the grandson of our Director of Employee Services, Donna Van Schaick.

Logan, a volunteer, teams up with Skilled Nursing Resident, Regina, to play some B-I-N-G-O! Fun Fact: Logan is the son of our Director of Social Services, Meredyth Smith.
