February Worship & Prayer

Ancient prayer practices meet modern styles of worship. Join us on February 5, the first Wednesday of the month, as we explore what it means to pray in many different ways, including prayer stations, guided meditations, journaling and more. We seek to open ourselves to the love of God, both individually and corporately. We will meet at 5:30 for dinner, and worship begins at 6:00.

A Bicentennial Moment

In anticipation of Mulberry’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment of Mulberry history.

Minutes from The Board of Stewards Meeting, February 25, 1916

“Chairman A. O. Park called to order the January meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the usual place. After a devotional service, the roll was called. In connection with the Treasurer’s report the chairman of the finance committee expressed gratification that the general condition seemed to be better than a year ago, the records showing that about $400 more had been paid on assessments to date during the present year than during the corresponding period of last year.  The Chairman of the Board stated that in pursuance of the Board’s action at the January meeting, the special committee having in charge the liquidation of the previous year’s debt, had employed Holmes Johnson, former member of the Board, to solicit subscriptions from the membership.

The Board authorized the use of the church Annex for the weekly meetings of the Business Women’s League, an organization having for its aim the building of a Young Women’s Christian Association.”

Minutes from the Board of Stewards Meeting, April 28, 1916.

“Request was again made by the Business Young Women’s Organization, through the Pastor, that the Board grant the continued use of the Sunday School basement rooms for their weekly meeting and Bible-study class, the organization asking that the Board accept a contribution to offset the expenses incidental to the meetings.  By motion of R. Holmes Mason, the Pastor was requested to notify the ladies that the Board would accept five dollars monthly for the use of the rooms and also ask that they pay the sexton one dollar for each evening his services would be required.

The Board also endorsed the proposed plan of the Pastor for a festival on the Church lawn at an early date, the purpose of same being to promote a closer fellowship among the membership.”

Morning Prayer of Petition

Good and gracious God, you bless my life so that I can be a blessing in the lives of other people. As I approach today, show me how to be a blessing:

  • to my family members and those whom I see every day,
  • to colleagues, classmates, or those with whom I work,
  • to my neighbors and those who live around me,
  • to those that are hurting or suffering in my community and world.

Lead me to live beyond myself today, so that I may be salt and light in the world. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude

Mighty God, all day long you are working for my good. I too often get caught up in what is happening for others and struggle to focus on the ways you are blessing me. Open my eyes to see the ways that even today you bless me:

  • in surprising moments,
  • through other people,
  • by opening doors and providing opportunities,
  • in using my mistakes or shortcomings to teach me,
  • by offering me opportunities to impact other people.

Keep me focused on the work that you are doing in and through me, and may I not neglect to see you blessing my life or ignore your call to bless others. Amen.
