Dear Friends,

It's 2-2-22! Something about the symmetry of that date is so appealing. Our groundhog friends in Georgia and Pennsylvania have disagreed with one another today, so you get to choose the winter/spring weather prediction you find most suitable to your needs.

The unanimous consensus here at FBC Griffin, however, is that we have fantastic people doing worthwhile things all the time in our ministry areas. We hope you will spend a few minutes learning more about the upcoming events at the church. Don't forget to invite a friend to join you for a Wednesday night meal and study or to come to worship with you on Sunday. Let us know how we can lift you up in prayer this week.
Got plans for Sunday lunch this week? Of course you do! You're coming to the Church Conference to enjoy We will start serving at 11:45 a.m. until everyone has a plate. Following lunch we will have a brief chat about church business.
During our Celebration service this weekend, we are proud to feature the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Troop 2, Pack 2, and their volunteer leaders. The scouts will be collecting canned food for the food pantry beginning this weekend. You are invited to bring canned good donations to leave on the altar during either service.
We will celebrate the Lord's Supper this weekend during both services. Please remember that our tradition at First Baptist Griffin is to accept a Benevolence Offering on the first Sunday of each month to benefit those most in need in our community.

Church Camping Weekend Updates
If you are going camping/glamping with FBC, plan to gather at 5:00 P.M. on Monday night, February 21, at the park's pavilion for a low country bowl with chefs David Skrine, Randy Shaw, and Ken Smith. (Don't worry kids — we will have hotdogs, too!) Please bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert to share with your camping/glamping friends. Remember to bring bug spray for those biting Noseeum bugs and a flashlight for the short walk back from the pavilion in the late evening.

Jane and Bill Hardee will be joining us for the evening. This is a treat we do not want to miss because it has been a while since some of us have heard his distinguished laughter.

Other than the Monday evening meal, everyone is on their own for food and recreation. You will find many attractions in the surrounding area: Savannah, Skidaway Island, Wormsloe historic site, and many other places of interest are close enough for a day trip. You might also visit the Mighty Eighth Museum in Pooler or the museum at Fort McAllister. The Ogeechee River is known for great kayaking and fishing. Ellee and Peggy will make their way around the campsites on Sunday evening to say hello!

Campsites are still available, so if you would like to go, you can reserve a spot by clicking on the "Reserve Your Spot" button, or call 1-800-864-7275.
XYZ meets on Tuesday, February 8th at 11:30 a.m. to learn more about a most intriguing, inedible fruit known as a gourd. Why, you may ask? You will be surprised by the many ways you can put gourds to use in your everyday life! Even if you don't change your mind about gourds, you will still enjoy the fried chicken, green beans, potato salad, rolls, and dessert we will be having for lunch. Don't forget to let us know you're coming by clicking on RSVP.

WOM will meet Tuesday February 8th after XYZ.  The project is to bring onesies for the FBC Mission Trip.

Missions Update
Through the end of February, the Mission Council will be collecting onesies (any color, sizes 0 to 2T) in the designated box in the Welcome Center. One of the missionaries we support in Kampala—Missy Ward-Angalla—has asked for our help for the refugee children served by Amani Sasa. The only onesies they can acquire for these children are very expensive and of poor quality. Our own short-term missionaries will be traveling to Africa in just a few months and will take any onesies we can collect to Missy. Thank you for your prayerful support of Amana Sasi and of our missionaries.
Benevolence Ministry Needs
Benny (a Benevolent Dog) has pulled together an illustration to show you how you can help out your friends in the Griffin community by reaching into your closet and sharing gently used shoes, coats, or book bags with our Caregivers Clothes Closet.

Thank you!
Church Library News
THEY'VE GOT A SECRET!

What secret do Mary Beth Hargrove, Linda Hayden, Gertrude Landrum, and Joyce McCartney share in common? They've discovered the treasury of books in our Church Library. Together these four women read a total of 825 books from our library collection during 2021. I hope you will join them in the adventure of reading in 2022. Our Church Library is open each Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Come and discover what our library has to offer -- books, magazines, DVDs, CDs for all age groups, as well as numerous historical materials.
— Brian McCartney, Library Team Leader

Conversing with the Saints
Who among us had failed to witness the roller coaster of outrage and emotion present in our current cultural context? Too often, in an attempt to get noticed, news headlines trot out the bright shiny object of the day. What are we supposed to be outraged about today? What is the latest fashion? What is the hot new gadget, movie, or song..."

Floral Arrangements
The flowers in the Sanctuary and Morgan Hall are given to the glory of God and in honor of the Boy Scouts of America, First Baptist sponsored Troop 2, Pack 2 and their volunteer leaders. A Scout is reverent.

If you wish to place flowers in the sanctuary or Morgan Hall in honor or memory of a loved one, then please call Brenda Goolsby (cell: 770-468-3959).
Need a ride to church?

Around the Neighborhood
The City of Griffin and Spalding County are updating their joint Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP). The CTP update process focuses on developing the vision, goals, and objectives for future transportation needs in Griffin/Spalding. This process involves evaluating existing conditions, assessing future transportation network conditions and needs, and identifying priorities and projects for both the short and long term. As a guiding document, the CTP will set the direction for City and County officials in their efforts to cultivate a quality transportation system and promote a high level of mobility for all users.

Please take a few minutes to look at the map linked below. Carefully read the directions and notate places where you know that there are transportation issues (pot holes, unsafe intersections, traffic flow problems, etc.).
