2022 was an eventful year for WSNA!

As we bid Anna Goebel a sweet farewell into retirement, I look back on my transition into WSNA this year with gratitude and excitement for the future. Not only was I rewarded with the opportunity to work directly with the many purpose-driven and accomplished stallion owners here on North American soil, but I also got the opportunity to do something I have always wanted to do for our North American warmblood breeding industry: support and embolden the future of our industry and sport in North America through giving back in impactful ways.

This year, we kicked off a sponsorship program that included Dressage at Devon Born in the USA (VIP Sponsorship), North American Stallion Sport Horse Tests (advertising certificates for all newly licensed/approved stallions), Young Horse Show series (4-year-old Jump Chute classes), American Hanoverian Society Futurity (complete sponsorship of all age classes), and the USSHBA livestream educational event (for one lucky breeder). Though the pervasive compounded impact of this investment is invaluable, the pure cost of this sponsorship program was over $8,000. This money goes to further support our North American warmblood stallions and their offspring, as well as give our breeders an outlet to showcase and market their young warmbloods. Let's do it again (and more) in 2023!

In 2022, we grew the WSNA audience by over 1,000 followers on social media. We won't stop there! Subscriber/follower goals for 2023 are ambitious, all in the spirit of ensuring that the North American breeder base is made aware of their North American stallion options and noteworthy news.

In 2022, we kicked off our new sister site WarmbloodBreeding.com, providing expanded and strengthened leverage for advertising & marketing opportunities across the complete WSNA platform. We have big news for this platform coming in 2023. Stay tuned!

In short, I am honored and privileged to take over the reins from Anna this year. I am eternally thankful to Anna for what she built for our industry and her contributions over a lifetime of service. 2023 holds promise for the exciting next chapter for Warmblood Stallions of North America...and I am nothing short of thrilled to be doing this with you all.

Cheers and Happy Holidays!

A sport pony with an unmatched record here in North America!

We’re thrilled to see so many of Popeye's offspring shine form foal inspection through to the show ring. Much like their sire, the Popeye offspring prove to be versatile talents and continue to shine as dressage horses and eventers this season. Approved son Pixar (ds. Fascination), owned and bred by Kristin Deluca, Popgun (ds. Oliver Twist), owned and ridden by Julianne Pearson and bred by Ilona English, and Peter Pan (ds. Der Fiene Lord), owned by Candace Hamilton and bred by Westphalians for USA, are all showing Third Level with multiple first place finishes to their credit. Phenix (ds. Lonetree’s Romeo), owned and bred by Angela Mirarchi, moved up to Second Level this spring. Four year old Popeye daughter SBF Pamplona (ds. Highlife’s Burberry), owned and bred by Janine Markham, started her undersaddle show career on a high note by winning the Four Year Old Prospect Championship at the Raleigh Spring Dressage show.

The Popeye daughter Popstar (ds. Fascination) continues to shine as an eventer, with multiple wins at Beginner Novice – consistently finishing on her dressage score! In the hunter ring, the young Popeye gelding Poseidon IRF (ds. Khemos Fyre), owned and bred by Michael and Suzanne Maloney, has been exceptionally successful showing in the 3-Year Old Hunter Breeding classes with top ribbons at the Devon Horse Show and Upperville Colt & Horse Show.

Offspring Success! Standing Ovation New Horizons, a six-year-old stallion by Stellar TVR and out of the Premium mare, Ricola DTA, is the first small horse/pony to complete the new format of the North American Stallion Performance Test!

"Stanley" attended the East Coast testing site at Hilltop Farm in October 2021, and is now fully approved for breeding through Westfalen and Weser Ems. He was bred by Mary Procopio of New Horizons Farm LLC in Michigan and was purchased in utero by Marcy Segel (Ross) of Symphony Hill Farm. Carolyn Jette prepared Stanley for the testing.

Offspring Inherit Beautiful Type & Scope

Offspring Update! The oldest North American bred Woodbury’s Harlequin offspring, Harley’s Davidson (ds. Colwyn Llewelyn), owned and bred by Trestle Tree Farm, continues to impress us with each step of his career. At six years old now Harley’s Davidson is shining in the show ring with consistent placings in the USHJA Hunter 2’ classes at WEF this winter. His exceptionally sensible character makes him a favorite at the barn too!

Power in a small package!

Belafonte d'Avalon is the result of some of the best sport horse and sport pony breeding in the world. His dam, Mata Hari, is by jumper stallion, Mannhattan and out of the pony mare, Idealiste. Idealiste was 14:1 hands tall, out of Kathy's endurance racing Anglo Arabian mare and by the Oldenburg stallion, Ideal. Belafonte's sire is the German Riding pony, Hilkens Black Delight. Hilkens Black Delight, a Weser-Ems stallion, won the 2005 Weser-Ems licensing and was the first pony ever to be invited to the Oldenburger Stallion's Parade where he received a standing ovation and was described as being "as close to perfection as possible". He has been described by the licensing committee as the most stunning pony they have seen for at least 6 years since his sire, Branduardi M won the licensing. Belafonte is following in his father's footsteps in receiving similar praise for his outstanding conformation, movement and character.

Belafonte went on to fulfill his performance requirement by attending the 30 Day Pony Stallion Testing in October of 2010. He again wow'd the judges with his enthusiastic and "can do" attitude and successfully completed the testing with one of the highest scores ever awarded both in North America and in Europe.

Perfect combination of Athletic and Quiet to compliment any mare

Snitch is very sweet, willing, and is incredibly intelligent. He has had extensive ground work and is incredibly brave. He is jumping quietly around 2' with plans to be going Beginner Novice by the end of 2022. We believe Snitch will be a multifaceted stallion, able and willing to enjoy anything of which we ask him. He should be a wonderful child and amateur producing stallion, like his sire, Tre Awain Goldsmith.

Very mellow and does not exert energy for shenanigans. No prep kind of show pony.

Not likely to produce small - Will throw larger than himself

He has sired 4 halfbred offspring in 2022, and covered about 8 mares for 2023 babies.
The Ultimate Pony Stallion successful at Prix St. George

Woodlander Sir Gorgeous has an incredible pedigree, being bred by the one and only Lynne Crowden and his warmblood sire compliments his Welsh Section C dam lines to perfection. His performance is also outstanding as he was the BD 5 Year Old Young Dressage Pony National Champion 2017 with highest score over all age groups.

2017 was Sir Gorgeous’ first season at stud and his first foals were born in 2018, with one of them, Bromson Remarkable, gaining an SPSS GOLD Premium when evaluated as a foal. One of his 2019 foals, MM Sweet Pea also gained an SPSS GOLD Premium on her way to qualifying for the 2019 Elite Foals Final, where she was placed 3rd in the Sports Pony section. In 2020, 3 of his foals were presented for Virtual Futurity Evaluations and 2 gained Futurity Gold Premiums, with the other getting a Silver.

Imported German Riding Pony Stallion

Boomer’s dam is the elite mare Nevada who had a successful show career before breeding. Nevada is by Mac Namara / Brilliant / Black Boy. Mac Namara was successful in show jumping up to class M. On the mother's side, it continues through Mac Benedict, Black Boy / Brilliant. Bloodlines that speak for themselves. The trademark stallion Brilliant can also be found in the sire line on his mother's side in Bentley.

Bommer’s Sire is the elite stallion Beautyful Stallion, he was very successful in sport and breeding. Beautyful Stallion has demonstrated his rideability and movement potential both at the stallion performance test with 115.86 points in Münster-Handorf and in the German national team under Ines Abelein. As the licensing winner in 1992 with an 8.4 in Hesse and in Weser-Ems, Beautyful Stallion was awarded the Silver medal awarded by the FN in Warendorf. Type, charm and elegance paired with all riding pony points and above all easy rideability is what he gives to all of his offspring. For years in a row, sons and daughters had been nominated for the Bundeschampionat and were ahead of the pack at state mare shows. Numerous offspring, like his licensed sons "Black Attack" and "Blue Moon" made a name for themselves in breeding and sport.

Braaklander Boomerang impressed at the licensing not only with his excellent movement, but also with his above-average jumping ability.
Braakalnder Boomerang qualified for the Bundeschampionat in eventing last year.
Imported German Riding Pony Stallion

Hilkens Go For Gold is a 14.2hh imported German Riding Pony, he was bred by Hilkens Stud Farm in Germany. Hilkens Go For Gold was approved for breeding in Hanover before import to North America. He has been successful in Dressage, but he also shows lovely form and scope over fences. Hilkens Go For Gold is approved for breeding with North American Sport Pony Registry, Canadian Sport Pony, RPSI and ISR Oldenburg NA. Hilkens Go For Gold is EVA Negative.

The end of 2022 comes with a bittersweet end to a beloved chapter.

This year, Scot enlightened us with heart-felt and witty tales of inspiration founded on honesty and realism, giving us all an insight into the rigors, challenges, and rewards of this warmblood breeding industry in North America. There were highs, and there were lows. We joined him every step of the way, empathizing, sympathizing, and reflecting on our own breeding and personal life experiences. Scot wraps up his column with yet another thought-provoking piece addressing a critical (and unaddressed) topic in North American breeding: Breeder Recognition. Click here to read on.

Thank you, Scot, for your contributions to our readership this year! We wish you nothing but good luck in your future endeavors.

Announcing an INFLATION VACATION on WSNA pricing going into 2023!

After much deliberation, we have decided to hold our rates FLAT going into 2023. We've all experienced more than our fair share of cost inflation this year, squeezing margins and making it difficult to support businesses, especially in the warmblood breeding industry where we already see slim profitability. The least we can do at WSNA is to keep our services accessible to stallion owners in North America!

Now is the time to sign your stallion up for the upcoming breeding season, before we issue our big All Stallion Newsletter in January!
