The Office of Community Involvement (OCI) was created by voters in Multnomah County in 1984. We welcome everyone who lives, works, plays, and worships in Multnomah County to participate in shaping our county policies, budgets, and programs. Here are some opportunities for community members to engage.

Multnomah County Budget Process
The Multnomah County Board of County Commissioners adopt an annual budget for Multnomah County and its service districts. The County Chair releases the Proposed Budget in May and the County Commission acting as the Budget Committee begins deliberation. The proposed budget will be released and posted to the Budget Office website on April 25, 2024 for review.
The Budget Committee will hold a series of department budget worksessions to review budget proposals. Also during this time, the County Commissioners host three public hearings that allow the community to deliberate and provide public comment on the budget. Three public hearings are scheduled for - May 8th, May 15th and May 29th. A calendar of the Budget Worksessions is available on the Budget Office website.

Chair Jessica Vega Pederson’s Executive Budget will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The Final FY 2025 Budget is scheduled to be adopted on June 6, 2024 at the regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

- Sign up to testify during Multnomah County's three public budget hearings.
- Submit written comments or suggestions about the County's proposed budget.
The three public budget hearings are currently scheduled for:

Wednesday, May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. This will be a hybrid hearing held virtually and at the Multnomah Building (501 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland)

Wednesday May 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. This will be an in-person hearing at Y.O.U.TH PDX (16126 SE Stark St., Portland).

Wednesday, May 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. This will be a virtual hearing.

OCI Open Office Hours- Budget Engagement 101
The Office of Community Involvement (OCI) will host a monthly information session for community members to learn more about engagement opportunities and a space to ask questions about how to have your voice included in the process. Join us online on these dates:

JOIN US: Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson will deliver her State of the County address on Monday, April 29 at the OMSI Auditorium. The event will be moderated by Cynthia Gomez and following the Chair’s remarks, there will be a Q & A portion of the program.
In Chair Vega Pederson’s second State of the County speech she’ll highlight the County’s efforts in responding to the homeless, behavioral health and fentanyl crisis and protecting the health of the community.
Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 8:00 a.m. Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP at multco.us/SOTC2024

Reclaim Your Vote 2024 - Virtual Hour
Join us during one of our Reclaim Your Vote series to prepare for the 2024 Election! During these virtual hours, we will share information about voter registration, maintaining current voter registration, and the City of Portland’s New Electoral System – Rank Choice Voting. The City of Portland’s New Electoral System – Rank Choice Voting change only applies to residents in the City of Portland and goes into effect for the 2024 Election.
