Congratulations!

There are many congratulations to go around this time of year. First, we’d like to offer a warm welcome to the newly admitted cohort of students who are starting in Spring 2023. Congrats on your acceptance to the program! Next, we applaud our class of Fall 2022 graduates who have completed all of their program milestones and will now join our ranks of alumni out in the world. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope to see you for commencement next May! Lastly, congrats to all of our current students who have finished (or are finishing) their final exams. We hope everyone has a restful and healthy Winter Break!

Important Announcements

Important Dates and Deadlines: 



• December 20: Fall tuition and registration fees: Final installment of Fall Fee Payment Plan due
• December 19 - December 22: OOMPH Staff Grey Out Week
• December 23 - January 8: OOMPH Program Winter Curtailment (i.e. OOMPH offices are closed, staff to return on January 9)
• January 1*: Last day to waive out of SHIP for Spring without incurring a $75 fee
• January 8: Phase II enrollment ends for continuing students
• January 9: Adjustment Period for enrollment begins
• January 11: Spring 1 courses begin
• January 15*: FINAL SPRING SHIP WAIVER DEADLINE (i.e. to avoid the $3,186 fee)
• January 17: Spring Full Term courses begin

*Please note: if you waived out of SHIP during the Fall semester, you do not need to waive again for Spring/Summer (i.e. the Fall waiver extends through the entire academic year). If you have any questions or are unsure of your waiver status, please reach out to oomph_admin@berkeley.edu.

Are you an OOMPH student in need of quantitative support for your practicum?

Beginning in January, current OOMPH students who have identified or are currently engaged in a practicum will have the ability to schedule an appointment on PHLEX to meet with Catherine Metayer MD, PhD, Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, for support on topics related to quantitative methodologies. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks about the program and how to schedule an appointment!

Spring Enrollment

All OOMPH Students should now be enrolled in their Spring courses. If you have any questions or concerns about Spring enrollment, please reach out to your Program Manager.

We invite all students to complete this short survey to share what course activities you enjoyed. Your response will help us ensure your preferred learning activities are more widely used in our program. If you complete the survey, you will be entered into a raffle to get a $25 gift card to the Cal Student Store. 

Practicum Deadlines

As you plan your semesters ahead, please keep in mind some key practicum deadlines. The practicum must be completed by the end of your second to last semester is required to be completed before you can sit for the comprehensive exam.

For Spring 2023 graduates 

• Dec. 15, 2022 - All paperwork must be submitted to PHLEX
• Jan. 15, 2023 - Final deliverables must be submitted to PHLEX

For Summer 2023 graduates

• May 1, 2023 - All paperwork and final deliverables must be submitted to PHLEX.

Initial Practicum Consultations with a Field Consultant

Are you a newly enrolled Fall 2022 student? If yes, you should have received an email from your Practicum Field Consultant, Sara Ayazi (Epi/Bio & HPM) or Kandis Rodgers (PHN & Interdis), to schedule an initial practicum consultation through PHLEX. This short meeting is a great opportunity to learn more about the practicum and begin brainstorming what the practicum can look like for you. Please schedule your initial practicum consultation by Jan. 20.
