Unicoi to Helen Hike Celebrating

the Great Outdoors Month 

This winding and scenic trail winds through stands of rhododendrons and mountain laurels and crosses the Lower Smith Creek. It actually crosses several small streams and then intersects with the Unicoi Mountain Biking Trail before reaching the Unicoi Hill City Park in Helen where we will stop and enjoy the Alpine Village of Helen, one of the most popular areas in North Georgia.

The trail is In & Out,  3 miles into Helen and 3 miles back for a total of 6 miles.  We will have lunch at the Gazeboup on the hill in the Unicoi Hill City Park as we take in the sights and continue to enjoy each other's company before we hike back.

Celebrating National Wellness Month. One of the best ways to stay well is to be active and get outdoors. August is the month to try something new!  

The Unicoi trail to downtown Helen is an easy to moderate hike. The trail runs right along a creek, then at about halfway way a good size stream. It is very pretty with the canopy of the trees. 

There is a $5.00 parking fee. Wear layers and dress according to the weather. Please wear comfortable shoes/hiking boots. Bring a minimum of two (2) bottles of water, snacks and a healthy lunch. We will have lunch at the Gazebo. We practice 'Leave No Trace.' We take only what we bring in, with the exception of photos and memories. 

 Requirements: A friendly disposition, a warm smile and an open mind!

FYI ... There are facilities for our 'pit stop' before the hike located inside the Unicoi Lodge backdoor off the parking lot. Parking is $5.00 payable inside the lodge at the little store, unless you checkout a free State Park parking pass with your library card from your local library. 

*SPECIAL NOTE: If you plan to meet us at the trailhead, plan to arrive between 9:45a.m. - 10:15a.m. Follow directions to the Unicoi Lodge 1788 GA-356, Helen, GA 30545. Go to the parking lot in the back of the lodge where the zip line is located. That is where we will meet. The trailhead starts there. We will start the hike by 10:30a.
