Let's Talk About....
Farmers

The local and regional organic farmers, whose produce we sell at NourishMe, are the most important piece of our mission to bring nutritious farm food to the Wood River Valley. These farms are also fundamental to our economy and health-conscious culture. News
NourishMe, and our fellow Main Street businesses, are fully open and functioning throughout the Project Main Street construction. But there is much more news on construction and changes in Ketchum we'd like to address.

During construction Ketchum has lost 25 parking spots on Main Street. The loss of parking availability has been reflected in two ways.
1) Less shopping and dining visitors from the south valley especially during slack when we rely more on local trade than tourists.
2) A filled Washington Street Parking lot behind NourishMe.

As to the second issue, the City of Ketchum and the Ketchum Urban Renewal Agency have proposed a 66 unit development on the Washington Street parking lot. This will mean potential loss of more parking for our customers and our neighbors Sushi on Second, The Argyros, the Limelight, Sawtooth Club, Magic Lantern, Sun Valley Culinary, Whiskey Jacques, and many other surrounding establishments.

Residents, local business, and employees will be left without parking during height of the seasons, and in the winter, near their places of business and/or homes. Disabled and elderly people will have a particularly hard time.

As we have seen from item number one, mentioned above, "downtown parking is necessary for the businesses to survive. We are for mixed-use housing and really love that this project this project is being done with the input of the Wood River Housing Authority," Julie Johnson said.
However, "We are not in favor of this project."

Please link below to sign the petition to pause this project while other solutions are considered.

Watermelon Gazpacho
by Mark Bittman
Directions:

  • Peel 1 small watermelon (about 3 pounds), and cut the flesh into large chunks.
  • Put them in a food processor along with 2 ripe tomatoes, chopped,
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Pulse the mixture, adding a few ice cubes, one at a time, if necessary, to get the machine going
  • Chill in the fridge
  • Garnish with any of the following: fresh chopped or ripped herbs especially fresh basil and a drizzle of olive oil, croutons, sliced green onions, fresh pepper, flaky salt.

Quaffing
Radler has a cutesy new look and name, Crafty Radler. Begun in Munich Germany in 1922, Radler was invented on the fly by a pub owner who, overwhelmed by thristy cyclists, he stretched his beer supply with lemon lime soda water. Instant hit! Still the great taste, still uncommonly quenching.
