New Mission Corner in the Gathering Place

Where did those donation bins in the Education Hall go? They were repurposed and turned into donation shelves to fit into the corner behind the stairs in the Gathering Place! The once empty corner is now filled with photos from work with our mission partners and a beautiful painting by Rev. Allysen Schaaf.

The Mission Corner will be the donation site for future collections like Angel Tree gifts, Reverse Advent Calendar items, and clothing drives.

Thank you to members of the Mustard Seed Group led by Pressly Gilbert, Sallie Crossley, and Susan Knox, for their hard work in breaking down the old bins and rebuilding them into rollable shelving units. Also, thank you to the Sardis Youth for doing a great job painting the shelves!

We are always collecting canned food donations for Loaves & Fishes/Friendship Connection. You can drop-off your donations in the Mission Corner any time. You can view a list of needed items here.

Changing Lives

Feeding 200 Women & Children Each Month

Shout out to the seven Sardis groups that have been supplying dinner for 200 women and children at the Salvation Army’s Women’s Shelter once a month. Salty Fish’s November dinner concludes the second rotation through the groups of msgs, circles, Choir and Sunday school classes. If your group would like to volunteer, contact Pam Stirling.

CROP Hunger Walk Fundraising Goal Reached!

On Sunday, October 16, twenty-eight Sardis members of all ages joined the Charlotte community at American Legion Memorial Stadium on a mission to end hunger! Our team set out with a goal of raising $8,000 to benefit three local agencies and have a global impact as well. Sardis, you exceeded that goal! Thank you for the support. Imagine how many lives you are changing with your generosity! Check out the story WCNC did on the Charlotte CROP Walk here. Giving will remain open through November 1. You can give through Sardis online, or through our CROP Walk team page

Coming Up...

Angel Tree

Through Planting Seeds of Hope, our partnership with Rama Road Elementary School, we will once again have our Angel Tree. This is a wonderful opportunity to help families in need have a special Christmas.

We will be using Sign Up Genius again this year to select Angels. When you visit the virtual angel tree, you will see all the angels listed along with age, gender, and helpful gift suggestions. Please sign-up for an angel, shop, and return unwrapped gifts to the new Mission's Corner in the Gathering Place by December 4.

If shopping isn’t an option, you can still help by making a donation to our Angel Tree fund. Everything collected is used to help the children and families at Rama Road Elementary School.

The virtual Angel Tree and online giving will open on November 6. As the need grows, your support is appreciated more than ever. Thank you, Sardis!

Alternative Gift Market

The 2022 Alternative Gift Market will open on Sunday, November 27 and run through December 21. The Alternative Gift Market will feature eight designated ministries, and a unique opportunity to do all of your Christmas shopping in one place!

Additional information, including the order form, description of market ministries, and acknowledgement cards for holiday gifts or in honor/in memory of a friend or loved one will be available on the Sardis website and for pick-up in the Gathering Place and Narthex on Sundays (November 27-December 21).

Reverse Advent Calendar

Each winter season, Roof Above coordinates the Room in the Inn (RITI) program where area churches and organizations help house neighbors experiencing homelessness overnight. Sardis will host Room in the Inn guests 1-2 times a week in January-March. This year, our Reverse Advent Calendar will be collecting items for our RITI neighbors.

Each day during Advent (November 27 - December 24), purchase one of the items on the calendar or use the prayer or fact about homelessness for reflection. Drop off donation items in the new Missions Corner blue donation shelves in the Gathering Place by January 8, 2023. Look for the calendar in November.

Luke 2:6-7 “While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and Mary gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them."
