Supporting School Attendance

Attendance Matters! As we know, students need to be present to engage in learning. Attendance and engagement are key to success in school and beyond.

In this session, educators will discuss the importance of early intervention and learn prevention strategies to improve student attendance and lower chronic absenteeism as outlined by the new 2023-2024 Attendance Guide for Ohio Schools and Districts.

Important questions to be considered:

  • Do we promote a culture of attendance on a year-round basis?
  • Do we have early outreach protocols to families before absences add up?
  • Do we routinely collect information from students and families to better understand attendance barriers?
  • Does our attendance team frequently monitor attendance and chronic absence data, trends and patterns?

Join us as we discuss these questions, but also share out various interventions and strategies to support student attendance at the school and district level.
