MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES:

MFY had 24 students perform for an audience of over 75 at the North Branch Library in Bridgeport on April 4th. This was a record turnout - and the music was fantastic. They had students from the KEYS program, the Musical Mondays Band, and strings program.They also had adults and youth violin soloists. It was a great evening. They are looking for performers for the May 2nd performance.  Please join them for this very fun event. The public is always invited and welcome.

Graduating Seniors:

This competitive KEYS Scholarship is available to Greater Bridgeport Area graduating seniors with an upcoming high school diploma or GED; who have participated in any of the KEYS programs for a minimum of three years, and are committed to attending a Two (2) or Four (4)-year College, University, or post-secondary career training certificate program.

Students do not need to pursue a Music major or career to qualify.

Applications are now open to students from Bridgeport for the Bob Genualdi and Dorothy Straub 2024 Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to students who plan to continue their music studies in the summer or in college.

Awarded to High School Seniors graduating in Spring 2024 from a public or private school in Fairfield County, CT or Westchester County, NY. You do not need to be a film studies major to enter the contest. The Avon Scholarship Award check will be made out to the college or university you will be attending full-time in Fall 2024.

KEYS Summer Music Camps:

FREE! KEYS Summer Music Program

July 2024- Beginner Program

(entering grades 2-8)


Description: For new students as well as beginners (1-2 years on their instrument). Exact instruments offered will be based on enrolled students. All new students must have a plan to continue lessons for the next school year. Students are required to attend all 5 days. 

Dates/Location: July 22-26.  Mon-Fri from 9:00am - noon.

The nOURish Center, 2200 North Avenue, Bridgeport.

Eligible students: Current and new students in piano, guitar, strings, winds.

Cost:   No cost.

FREE! KEYS Summer Music Program

July 29-August 16 2024

(grades 5th and up)

*performance for families on Friday, August 16th!


Description: For current instrument students (2+ years of lessons) to work on their primary instrument plus other musical opportunities, and ensemble experiences. Students who can attend all 3 weeks of the program will be prioritized for enrollment. Other students will be placed on a waiting list and added if space is available. There will be a performance for families on the last day-Aug 16th.

Dates/Location: July 29-August 16. Mon-Fri from 10:00am – 3pm. The nOURish Center, 2200 North Avenue, Bridgeport.

Eligible students: Students entering grades 5 and up with at least 2 years experience with their primary instrument. Piano, guitar, strings, winds plus electives for percussion and chorus.

Cost:   No cost. Lunch is provided.

Other Summer Music Camps:
GCTYO Summer Music Festival:

Description: A two-week summer music festival with orchestra, sectionals, chamber music, masterclasses, recitals, and a final concert. Traditional classical repertoire plus new diverse composers and contemporary genres.

Dates/Location: Weekdays, 9 am – 3 pm, July 22-August 2, 2024, at Roger Ludlowe Middle School, Fairfield, CT

Eligible students: For beginning strings players entering grades 5 and up with at least one year experience on instrument, all the way through intermediate and advanced strings players.

Cost: Financial assistance available for those who qualify. Regular cost for the two weeks is $990.

Application: Registration deposit of $100 will hold your spot. 50% of the remaining $890 ($445) will be due May 15 and 50% ($445) will be due June 15. They will send email reminders with a link to pay. Registration deposits are non-refundable.Visit Summer Music - Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras (gctyo.org) for more information and to register. 

Fairfield County Summer String Orchestra:

Description: There are three levels of orchestras – beginner, intermediate and advanced. 

Dates: Wednesday nights starting Wed Jul 10th, with a concert on Tuesday Aug 20th. 

*Combined Dress Rehearsal: MONDAY, August 14th with Concert on TUESDAY, August 20th 7PM (Both the Combined Dress Rehearsal and Concert take place in Ridgefield.)

Location: Weekly rehearsals at Trinity Episcopal, 651 Pequot Ave, Southport (walking distance from Southport train station).

Eligible students: Orchestra (3 levels): Entering grades 5-12 with 1 or more years of playing experience. 

Cost: KEYS students receive discounted $100 registration. The usual registration fee is $280.

Sleepaway Summer Music Camps:
Litchfield Jazz Camp:

Description: If someone in your family between the ages of 13-18 wants a life-changing music experience this summer but you can't quite swing the whole cost, we offer financial aid! 

Please go to the Register link below. The scholarship application is at the end of the registration form. Indicate your interest. Also, email a copy of your most recent tax return and any other relevant information to tegan@litchfieldjazzfest.com. It's that simple!!

Dates/Location: July 2-28, in Litchfield, CT. There are 4 one-week sessions. It is a residential camp so students stay in a dormitory.

New England Music Camp (Sidney, Maine):

Description: All sessions offer a great balance of music and recreation, with a focus on social activities and community building. NEMC is situated on a beautiful campus with lakefront and fields for lots of outdoor time. Cabins are fully supervised by counselors and our faculty come from all over the world with years of experience. We pride ourselves in offering an experience where all students belong and feel accepted, both socially and musically. 


NEMC Core Session: 4 weeks, June 29-July 28, ages 11-18 - all instruments and voice; large ensembles include band, choir, orchestra, and jazz band; small ensembles, music theory, 2 private lessons per week 


NEMC Prelude Strings & Band Camp: 2 weeks, July 29-August 12, ages 9-14 (rising 4th-9th graders); availability for violin, viola, cello, and bass (a bass at camp can be provided); focus on building orchestral skills but opportunities for Latin American music, Improvisation, and chamber music, all applicants accepted.


NEMC Jazz Intensive: 2 weeks, July 29-August 2, ages 14-18: The Jazz Intensive at NEMC is a two-week immersion program into the world of both traditional and contemporary jazz for High School Students, ages 14-18. From jazz theory and small ensemble work, to the traditional big band sounds, this program is for students looking to advance their education in Jazz and will be limited to 30 advanced students. The daily schedule includes a variety of classes, private lessons specifically for jazz, and rehearsals within the multiple groups. The Jazz Intensive is coordinated by New York City-based trombonist, arranger, and educator, Alan Ferber.


Chamber Music Intensive: 2 weeks, July 29-August 12, ages 14-19: for advanced high school musicians looking for a chamber music experience. Availability for piano, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, horn, viola and bass. Students perform in two small ensembles of mixed instrumentation alongside faculty, plus receive private lessons. Prior chamber music experience is necessary.


Composition Intensive: 2 weeks, July 29-August 12: High School students age 14-20 with composition experience. The 2024 Snow Pond Composition Intensive invites talented young composers between the ages of 14 and 20 years to partake in a 2-week long program that offers innovative opportunities to hone fundamental composition skills in a creative, collaborative environment fostered by renown composition faculty. 


Musical Theatre College Prep Intensive: 2 weeks, July 29-August 12, designed for rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, or attending college in the fall, ages 14-19: This two-week program offers a unique, holistic, approach to musical theater training and is customized to serve students' individual needs. The curriculum incorporates self-care and prioritizes wellness-based practices. Emphasis is also placed on the exploration craft and one's artistry as well as the nuts-and-bolts of healthy, sustainable technique. In addition to working with top industry professionals’ students will enjoy quality time on the lake swimming, kayaking, and building friendships that will last a lifetime!


Dates/Location: Multiple Sessions, sleepaway camp in Sidney, Maine. Bus transportation available from Boston, MA will transport students to/from Maine.

Eligible students: Ages 9 – 19. All campers and all levels accepted. Students must fill out a questionnaire and submit a playing sample.

Cost: Financial Assistance is available and it’s free to apply.
