Middle School Students are Breathing Easier! Platte Purchase and Platte City Middle School NJHS members recently partnered with Platte County Prevention Coalition and Beacon Health for a three-day "Breathe Easier" campaign to educate students on the harmful effects of vaping. Students postered walls, shared intercom announcements, and tested their knowledge at the end of the campaign. Click here for photos and the results of the campaign.

Board Members Take Office

At the annual reorganization meeting held April 11, Board Secretary Danielle Nickell administered the oath of office to newly elected board members, Matt Craine and Karen Bryant, and members elected Shawn Chiddix as Board President and Tyler Fadler as Board Vice President.

FBLA Sends 15 to Nationals

Forty-four members of PCHS FBLA recently competed at the State Leadership Conference and brought home numerous awards, including the Gold Seal of Merit award, Gold Chapter of the Year award, Outstanding Service award to Mason Salehi, and 10 State Champions! A total of 15 PCHS FBLA members qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, in late June. Click here to read more.

K-12 Summer School Enrollment Now Open via Parent Portal

You can now enroll for 2024 Summer School via the Forms on PowerSchool Parent Portal (via a browser or the app). For K-8 Summer School, please complete by May 10, 2024. For 9-12 Summer School, please complete by May 15, 2024.


Summer School will be held May 31-June 28 at the following locations. Click here for more information about summer school.

  • Barry Elementary: For all K-5th grade southern attendance area students (Pathfinder and Barry Elementaries)
  • Siegrist Elementary: For all K-5th grade northern attendance area students (Compass and Siegrist Elementaries)
  • PCHS: For all 6th-8th students, and 9th-12 grade students


*Incoming Kindergarten students can complete summer school enrollment after completing their regular school year enrollment (Kindergarten Kickoffs will be held April 22).

Welcome New Administrators

With Dr. Jennifer Beutel's retirement and Brian Noller assuming the role of Executive Director of Business Services starting in 2024-25, PCR-3 has restructured some District leadership roles and welcome these new administrators who will join the District starting next school year.


Emily Brown will join PCR-3 as the new Director of Special Services and Early Learning. Dr. Hawar Khalandi will join Platte County School District as the Director of College and Career Readiness.

Kindergarten Kickoffs - April 22

Children who have turned five years of age before August 1, 2024, are eligible for kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year and are invited to our Kindergarten Kickoffs in our elementaries on April 22:


  • Barry Elementary, 5:30-6:30pm, April 22, 2001 NW 87th Terrace, Kansas City
  • Pathfinder Elementary, 5:30-6:30pm, April 22, 1951 NW 87th Terrace, Kansas City
  • Compass Elementary, two sessions (5:15-6:15pm and 6:30-7:30pm), April 22, 401 Kentucky Avenue, Platte City
  • Siegrist Elementary, two sessions (5-5:45pm and 6-6:45pm), April 22, 1701 Branch Street, Platte City

Great Beginnings Tuition Preschool Enrollment

Families with PreK students who have turned four years of age by July 31, 2024, and are interested in Great Beginnings Preschool Tuition Program, are invited to contact Great Beginnings at 816-858-5420, or visit greatbeginnings.plattecountyschooldistrict.com. Open enrollment begins April 1 and spots are limited.

BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Pirate Pride: Down Syndrome Walk

For the Pirate Pride portion of the April meeting, the Board of Education recognized Allison Page and Karen Bryant, organizers of the first World Down Syndrome Day Walk at PCR-3 in March of this year. Several student groups, local businesses, and many staff members helped to make this event, bringing together nearly 200 attendees, a success. SCHIVIR Me Timbers Staff Recognition

Each month, PCR-3 recognizes staff members who are living our vision, mission, and values, by presenting the "SCHIVIR Me Timbers" award. SCHIVIR is an acronym for our values: Student Focus, Collaboration, High Expectations, Integrity, Visionary Leadership, Innovation, and Results Orientation.


At the April board meeting, Great Beginnings at DEC staff, Kim McGinness, Joyce Born, Chris Pfaff, Ashley Kelly, Amy Crawford, Sherri Johnson, Mary Swindler, Tracy Shippee, Jennifer Hillman, Cassie Rush and Heather Dombek were recognized for their student focus, collaboration, and high expectations. This group of early educators and support staff collaborate daily to serve our youngest learners despite being understaffed this school year. Their passion for early learning and their individualization of high quality learning activities set students up for success.

Pathfinder Elementary Parking Lot Expansion Approved

At the April meeting, the Board approved the bid for a parking lot addition at Pathfinder Elementary to be constructed this summer. The project will add 38 parking stalls and a pass through lane for parent arrival and dismissal. This project was funded through a combination of remaining bond proceeds and the capital outlay budget.  

Safe and Civil Schools Training Approved

The Board approved partnering with Safe and Civil Schools to support PCR3's strategic plan to implement a comprehensive behavior framework District wide. The partnership will help provide training and resources for preK-12 teachers and support staff focused on positive behavior support for individual students, classrooms, and buildings. Safe and Civil Schools is a research-based framework to assist all students to be successful schoolwide. 

Middle School Strategic Plan Update

Leadership teams from Platte Purchase Middle School and Platte City Middle School, along with Dr. Aaron Duff, Director of Secondary Education, provided the Board with a middle school strategic plan update at the April meeting. Click here to view the presentation.

Middle School Musical - Apr. 19 & 20

Come enjoy the talent from both Platte Purchase Middle School and Platte City Middle School as they present "High School Musical, Jr." on April 19 (7pm) & April 20 (3pm) at PCHS's Wilson Auditorium. See flier for details.

Pirates ROCK End-of-Year Celebration - Apr. 26

Our character is OUT OF THIS WORLD! The Pirates ROCK End-of-Year Celebration and Sharpen the Saw Challenge Course will be at Barry-Platte Park on Friday, April 26. Course is open from 5-7pm, with the character recognition ceremony at 6pm. Pre-register here and see flier for details.

DRUM! May 3

Join us for DRUM! on Friday, May 3, 7pm at PCHS Wilson Auditorium! Percussion students from PCHS, PPMS, and PCMS will present a percussion showcase you don't want to miss! This year's theme is "The Art of DRUM!" Tickets are $7, and all of the proceeds go back to the percussion program.

Plein Air Art Event - May 4

Platte City Friends of the Arts is hosting a Plein Air Paint Out on May 4 from 10am-2pm, at the Hisel Family Farm. See website and flier for details.

PCHS Cheer Team Tryouts - April/May

PCHS Cheerleading Tryouts are coming up! VARSITY: Clinics - April 22-24 from 5:30-7pm; Tryouts - April 25, beginning at 3:30pm. This is for current 9th, 10th, 11th graders. JUNIOR VARSITY: Clinics - May 13-15 from 5:30-7pm; Tryouts - May 16 beginning at 3:30pm. This is open to current 8th, 9th, and 10th graders. See Varsity and JV fliers for details.

Staff Convocation - Local Vendors

Calling all business owners in PCR-3! On August 16, we will host a Vendor Fair from 7-11am in conjunction with our staff Convocation event. Business owners who are District residents are invited to reserve a spot for $100 which includes one to two 4' tables and 2 chairs. PCHS Art Exhibition - May 1-3, 5

PCHS's annual art show will be held May 1-3 at PCHS, with a reception on Sunday, May 5 from 1-3pm, prior to the Platte City Community Band performance in the Wilson Auditorium at 3pm. See flier for details.

PCHS Evening of Jazz - May 10

Mother's Day 5K - May 11

Equal Start invites you to participate in the annual Northland Mother's Day 5K! The event raises funds for school supplies for eligible children. Register by April 20 to receive a race t-shirt. Register here.

4th/5th Grade Volleyball Camp - May 14-15
