IHPS FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

Tracy Lin, PhD

Tracy Kuo Lin, PhD, MSc is an Assistant Professor of Health Economics in the Institute for Health & Aging, Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She is also affiliated with the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at UCSF and the Middle East Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Her research interests center on health system financing and resource allocation around the world. The primary objective of her research is to formulate and implement strategies to enhance care while incorporating patient preference, containing the cost, and maximizing coverage.

CURRENT ISSUES

Access to Contraception

In a recent New York Times article, Senator Bernie Sanders called on a government watchdog group to to investigate why insurance companies are still charging women for birth control, a practice that could limit access for millions of women. The Affordable Care Act mandated that all contraception be provided without cost. Several IHPS researchers study contraception access, with recent work by Cynthia Harper, PhD and Jennifer Yarger, PhD on the use of telemedicine and insurance differences in accessing contraceptive care.
