When is Self-Care Not Enough?
There is no doubt the practice of self-care has benefitted many of us in recent years as we have been encouraged to focus more on our own needs and what rejuvenates and replenishes our spirits. There is a dangerous side to the concept, however, when one believes that self-care is a simple cure all for mental health - no matter how deep or wide the underlying issues.

“Pursuing self-care at any cost can be harmful, as it can prompt us to make choices that may not benefit us in the long term. Taking breaks and caring for yourself is essential, but disregarding responsibilities or making purchases you can’t afford can cause more stress and create additional problems,” says licensed family therapist Saba Harouni Lurie.

Like everything else, the use of self-care demands healthy balance. Determine boundaries, seek advice, and remind yourself regularly to reassess where you are in your wellness journey.
