Interfaith Thanksgiving Service  

 

Join Fourth Church and our partners in faith tonight for opportunity to worship in an interfaith setting this Thanksgiving season.

 

The annual Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Worship service at 7:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel will bring together the faith communities of Chicago Sinai Congregation, Fourth Church, and Holy Name Cathedral for a time of joint worship and thanksgiving. Associate Pastor Joyce Shin will participate in worship leadership; Monsignor Dan Mayall will preach.

 

We hope you'll join us as we express our gratitude through word and song!

Thanksgiving Day at Fourth Church

 

A special Thanksgiving Day worship service will take place this Thursday, November 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary, with Associate Pastor Vicky Curtiss preaching.

 

The traditional Thanksgiving Dinner that follows the service is sold out. Tickets for the Christmas Day dinner will be available this Sunday, December 1 at the reception desk. Be sure to get them early before they too sell out!

Family Advent Wreath Workshop     

 

Children and their families are invited to stop by Parish House Dining Room this Sunday and use their artistic talents to create Advent wreaths for their observance of this first season of the church year.

  

The Advent Wreath Workshop will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Families may drop in any time during that period to make a wreath to take home. All materials--wreath forms, evergreens, candles, candle holders, and bows--and instructions will be provided. No reservations required.

'Tis the season for holiday music: Mark your calendars and join us for these upcoming musical opportunities at Fourth Church, including the annual favorite, the Tower Brass Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 21 at 5:00 p.m. and the Christmas Cantata sung by the Fourth Church Morning Choir on Sunday, December 22 during 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship.

All concerts take place in Buchanan Chapel or the Sanctuary, and all non-ticketed performances are free.

An Advent Bible Study   

 

Opportunity to reflect and prepare for the observation of Christmas will be offered through a four-week Advent Bible study, starting this Sunday, December 1. Using Carol J. Miller's The Light Will Shine: A Study for Advent, the Bible study will shed new light on traditional texts and seasonal themes as well as explore fresh perspectives on the journey through Advent to Christmas and beyond.

 

This Advent Bible study, led by Vicky Curtiss, will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Room 5G.

Gift Bags for Social Service Center Guests


Help brighten the Christmas of a Sunday Night Supper guest by taking part in the "Christmas Gift Bag" project.

 

Simply pick up a bag during Coffee Hour this Sunday or at the reception desk and then decorate it and fill it with the items listed on an attached sheet (travel-size toiletries and a few other small items). Filled bags can be returned to the reception desk anytime through Sunday, December 8.

 

The bags will then be distributed to the guests of EDSSC programs throughout the Christmas holiday.

 

Remembering Loved Ones with Christmas Flowers 

 

Help decorate the Sanctuary and Gratz Center with flowers and garlands while at the same time memorializing or honoring loved ones this holiday season.

 

Names of those remembered through the Christmas flowers donation will be printed in the Christmas worship bulletin. Contributions can be made online, by completing the Christmas flowers form also available online or in the literature racks, or by contacting Wydetta Carter.

 

Forms must be received by Friday, December 13 for names to appear in the bulletin.
