Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.

Dear Christ Memorial Ohana, 

It is the time of year for our Stewardship Campaign when we give special thought to our gifts of time, talents and treasure.  

Our alter guild, lay eucharistic ministers, readers, musicians, technical support team, graveside foster families, property beautification team, administrative support, Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop employees and volunteers, outreach service providers and Bishop’s Committee contribute many hours of service to our church and our community. Thank you to everyone who serves CMEC in so many meaningful ways. We are blessed by your love and commitment to our church.  

If you are not already volunteering and are interested in sharing your time and talents in any of our ministries please let us know. We would love to have you join us.  

During this time of year we are also asked to consider how we can financially support CMEC. Our financial support allows us to continue to be a light in our community. Thank you for prayerfully considering financial stewardship in 2023. Please complete the enclosed form and return it in the offering plate on any Sunday during the month of October or mail it to CMEC, PO BOX 293, KILAUEA HI, 96754. This information will give us an idea of how to plan our 2023 church ministries and our budget.

Episcopal Relief & Development’s Pastors and Disasters: A Toolkit for Community-Based Disaster Resilience is a resource manual and workbook of practical tools designed to strengthen our partners’ efforts to respond more effectively to the increasing severity and frequency of disasters, especially within the context of local Anglican or Episcopal churches and organizations. 

By following the link below, you will hear from those who participated in reimagining the Toolkit. They share their insights, stories and case studies on how it has helped them and their communities. 

On September 11th we held an all parish meeting to begin the process of refining our search for a new vicar. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this important journey.

A prayer for transition:

Almighty God, look graciously on the people of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church. Be with us and lead us as we seek a priest for our church. We ask your direction and guidance for those who shall recommend and choose our new spiritual leader, that we may receive a faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries. Grant us perception, faithfulness, patience and joy, so that we may hear your voice in all our deliberations. Grant us also the desire and the ability to truly hear each other and those who have entrusted us with this process. Give us courage to respond and act as you lead us. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Halloween is right around the corner and the Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop is ready! We have lots of costumes and all kinds of Halloween and fall decorations for sale at very reasonable prices.  We look forward supplying you with all your Halloween needs and desires!

About 800 people visit our shop each week for essential items as well as treasures.  A big thank you to our customers as well as our volunteers who are all working together to keep useable merchandise out of our landfill.  A special thank you to our community who makes our shop one of the most popular on the island!

The code of honor teaches us

A way of being from above

That includes God, for this is care

For other folks, and God is Love.

Love little people in the world,

The flowers, the mice, the rocks, the birds.

The more you come to them in love

Scattering bread-crumbs as you go,

The more they trust your footsteps’ sound,

And then include you in their flow.

Love is a life’s work for the brave –

What better labor do we have?

And every gift you give away

Is more love God can give to you,

Because you serve His servants well,

Because you stick to them like glue.

You find their wants within your power,

And love grows, like a blooming flower.

Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. We remember especially those on our prayer list. Healing of body, mind and spirit for: Webb, David, Linda, David, Helen, Uschi, Robert, Jessica, Brayden, Dale, Mary, Tanya and her ohana, Sandy, Joy, Sid, Jo, Marge, and the leaders and community of Ukraine. We pray that you will bring people together in worship. Enliven your church and bless Michael our musician, our clergy and lay leadership. We pray for our sibling Episcopal congregations on Kauai: St John and St Pauls, St Michael & All Angels, and All Saints, and for all churches on the North Shore. We pray for our own congregation of Christ Memorial, Kilauea for those present, online and absent - that all of us together may be united in your ministry.
