FREE MONEY! FREE MONEY! FREE MONEY!

Now that I have your attention, who doesn't like free money? At WTS, one of our greatest joys and biggest responsibilities is providing scholarships to local graduate, undergraduate, community college, and high school students. Each year, we are able to give $20,000 to $30,000 in scholarships. The only way we can do this is from the generosity of our WTS Corporate Partners, event sponsors, and friends. We also can’t provide scholarships if we don’t have the students. Our 2022-2023 WTS Greater DFW Scholarship Award process has officially started! We need you to help spread the word about the scholarship opportunities and nominate outstanding students for the WTS Scholarships. All WTS Greater DFW applications are due on Friday, December 16th, 2022. The application can be found at https://www.wtsinternational.org/chapters/greater-dallas-ft-worth/scholarships.

Speaking of generosity, last month we held our 20th Annual Golf Tournament at Cowboys Golf Club. Although the play was a little slow, I believe everyone had a wonderful time. The weather was fantastic, the course was beautiful, the raffle prices were amazing, and the food was delicious! While the numbers are still being tallied, this was one of our biggest fundraising events to date, with an outstanding $28,000+ in proceeds. Thank you for your participation and thank you to our volunteers for their hard work. We look forward to seeing all of you again next year!

Earlier this month, several members of our Leadership Team spent some time in Kansas City at the WTS International Chapter Leadership Development Training. It was a great time focused on developing WTS Chapter Leaders’ skills, networking with other Chapter Leaders from across the country, and learning about some initiatives happening at the international level. Having the support at all levels of the organization really does embody #OneWTS. One of the most exciting announcements was about what’s happening with the DC Summit in 2023. DC Summit is the signature program of Transportation YOU, whose mission is to change the face of the transportation industry by growing the involvement and interest of girls and young women in STEM studies. The DC Summit brings mentees and mentors to Washington, DC for a program of tours, lectures, and interactive experiences. After a 2-year break from this in-person event, next year promises to be remarkable. Stay tuned throughout the year to learn more!

I hope you were able to spend some time last week with family and friends reflecting on all you have to be thankful for. I am thankful for my family, my health, my freedom and my career. And I am truly thankful for this organization and that I am able to serve as your president. WTS has brought me so many opportunities, connections and friendships. Thank you all for your support and for the roll you play in our organization.

I hope to see you at one of our upcoming events, including our Diversity Recognition Luncheon featuring Jannet Walker-Ford, WTS International Board Chair, as our guest speaker. Until then, stay safe, take care of yourself, and respect each other. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
