MAKEOVER MONDAY

The Holidays have been in full swing for a few months around here! Now it's Christmas and I make a 'hybrid' Gingerbread house 'most' every year. I use left over cardboard boxes instead of gingerbread though. Nobody eats it anyway. I did that one year and it was very time consuming. Instead of baking hard candies into the windows I just use a translucent paper and then use hot glue to assemble it.

Happy Holidays to All!

BEFORE...

Since I am not a builder, I started with some basic proportions from an image of our house and was just winging it from there with roof lines and other details. Cardboard is much easier to add or cut off using this scientific method. :) Since hubby has a construction background he was looking over my shoulder and letting me know where all the problems were. I had to constantly remind him that "there is no Code Inspector for gingerbread houses!"

DURING...

I used to build my house completely and then do all the decorating. I learned from other people wiser than me that it is best to do any piping before it is built. This way it can be laying down flat and you will have a steadier hand that way.

AFTER...

Of course all the candy is real. I have to shop for Necco Wafer 'shingles' every year and usually buy out every store I go to. I'm surprised they still make them because they taste awful. Much of the remainder of the candy is left over from prior years...like I said nobody eats them. The entire back is left empty for any other family members who might want to join in the fun tradition.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
