Healthy Beginnings
Kids Sensory Hike at Patapsco Valley State Park
Join Maryland DNR for a kids sensory hike on January 6th at 1pm in Patapsco State Park's McKeldin 600 area. This one-hour hike is on the 0.3-mile Medicine Tree Trail! Participants will be encouraged to use all their senses to connect to nature. Geared to ages 4-10. Wear appropriate hiking shoes and dress for the weather. Signup encouraged. Spots available for 20 total participants; hike is weather-dependent. 
Blueprint for Continuity of Care in Breastfeeding Support
The Blueprint, developed with a public health lens, aims to increase local capacity to implement community-driven approaches to support chest/breastfeeding, based on the needs of populations disproportionately impacted by structural barriers that lead to low rates of breastfeeding. Howard County Child Care Fair
Howard County's free Child Care Fair is on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at North Laurel Community Center, 10am to 1pm. Parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from the many child care programs throughout the county. To help in the selection process, professional parent educators from the Office of Children and Families will present “How to Choose an Early Childhood Program." Register!
Teen Mental Health Class for Parents and Caregivers
Howard County Library System is hosting the Howard County Health Department to share information on mental health services including the new 988 Crisis Line, Behavioral Health Navigation Services, Suicide Prevention efforts, and Crisis Services. The event is Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Savage Branch, DaVinci Room from 2pm to 3pm. Learn More!

Food and Care for All, Inc. P-CAT Program
Food and Care for All, Inc., is currently recruiting participants for their Preventing Chronic Disease and Tobacco Use (P-CAT) program. One of the benefits include a FREE membership to TOPS (Taking Pounds Off Sensibly) program - a $69 value! Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First Aid
Howard County is offering an adult, child and infant CPR and First Aid course on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 9am to 1pm. Class is taught in person at HC Dept. of Community Resources - 9830 Patuxent Woods Drive, Columbia, MD 21045. This class meets the OCC requirement for CPR and First Aid. The cost is $90 per person. Living Well Chronic Disease Self-Management
This community-based virtual workshop in a small group setting helps adults become stronger and better educated in managing ongoing health conditions. Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map
The Alzheimer’s Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) jointly developed the Healthy Brain Initiative State and Local Public Health Partnerships to Address Dementia: The 2018-2023 Road Map. This guidebook leads state and local public health agencies through 25 actions to act quickly and strategically to stimulate positive changes in policies, systems and environments for Alzheimer's and other dementias.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer Class
NAMI HC is hosting a HYBRID Peer-to-Peer Class in January! Peer-to-Peer is an 8-week class for adults with any mental health condition who are looking to better understand themselves and their recovery. The class is FREE and confidential and runs from January 18th through March 8th, Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm. SAMHSA's Annual Prevention Day
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is hosting Prevention Day on Monday, January 30, 2023, in conjunction with CADCA’s National Leadership Forum at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland. This national event will provide an opportunity to learn about what’s new and innovative in substance misuse prevention and mental health and connect with fellow peers. Register.
