ANNUAL PARENT SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
Parents from Manhattan Beach schools teamed up on June 2, 2024 to raise funds for the MBX Foundation who support student and athletic programs.
This annual event (since 2006) is a great local tradition in which parents play one another. Parents are grouped according to the local schools attended by their children and play in a friendly tournament that culminates in a dazzling championship game.
The event is a unique and family-friendly day in the sun, complete with cheering crowds, music and an all-day snack bar featuring hamburgers, hot dogs and lots of treats! Ross Kay launched the tournament and continues to play each year. Since 2016, Dave Fratello has served as tournament director.
This year, parents representing the Manhattan Beach Middle School won the tournament after winning 3 of 4 games in pool play, won a marathon semifinal playoff and advanced to the finals against a Pacific elementary team. New to the tournament this year was the fisrt all-women's team, the Softball Mamas. Read all about this year's event in the MB News story.

BAND
Congratulations to the MCHS Bands & Guard - 23/24 was a huge success! It has been an incredible year of music making and performing in the Mira Costa High School Bands and Guard from...our amazing Concert Ensembles earning higher ratings at festival than groups that won the GRAMMY Award a decade ago...to our phenomenal Jazz Bands earning top honors at major Regional and National events...our fantastic Marching Band and Colorguard being named a Finalist in the Regional Championships for the National Circuit, Bands of America, for the first time in school history...our awe-inspiring Indoor Drumline making their third consecutive finals at the Southern California Percussion Alliance from out of the largest Prelims field in seven years...and our stunning Winteguards earning top performance marks in their circuits while performing some of the most technically demanding programs that Mira Costa has ever produced!
(And that does not even count our student's inspiring performances through our partnerships with Drama for the spring musical Footloose and with Orchestra for concerts throughout the year and for the upcoming Central Europe Tour!)
There is so much more than these empirical snapshots can tell, as we heard from our Class of 2024 graduating seniors, the daily enjoyment of performing and making music, pushing oneself to new and greater heights, forming memories that will last a lifetime, learning important life lessons in and out of the classroom, finding new friendships and strengthening enduring ones and I am so thankful to our parents and staff for continuing to offer our students such incredible opportunities to shine on some of the largest stages! Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Onward and upward!

Coached by the Mira Costa Tennis Team Coaches, the summer MBX training camp is for students who are seriously interested in trying out for the Costa boys tennis program in the next school year. It is not mandatory for those trying out for the tennis team but this will allow our coaches to be able to spend time with incoming freshmen, help evaluate their skill level and offer training to help them improve their skills. This is also an opportunity for the incoming players to spend some court time with the coaches currently involved with the Mira Costa Tennis Program. Current players already on the JV or Varsity teams are also able to utilize this camp as training during the summer.
