Taiz Tonight A service in the style of Taiz, which incorporates prayer, singing, and silent reflection, will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel. The Taiz service provides an opportunity to gather in a contemplative, prayerful setting at the end of a busy week. Candles; easy-to-learn songs from various countries, traditions, and languages; and a period of silence all contribute to a time to reflect and to open oneself to God. The service will be preceded by opportunity to walk the labyrinth in Buchanan Chapel between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. This meditative walk takes approximately twenty minutes. Also, save the date: Next month's Taiz service will be held on New Year's Eve, Tuesday, December 31. Time and place Friday, November 22 Labyrinth Walk Between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel Taiz Service 7:30 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel back to top |

The Music and Meaning of Advent
Looking for a fun way to welcome the season of Advent and look toward Christmas?
Among the many ways Fourth Church offers to prepare for these seasons is a special event for all ages: "The Music and Meaning of Christmas" on Wednesday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gratz Center.
That evening children will enjoy a meal and activities with Minister for Children and Families Matt Helms in the Bumpus Room.
For the adults, there will be a festive reception and fellowship in the second-floor Allison Hall and Library beginning at 5:30 p.m. Then at 6:15 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel, Associate Pastor Adam Fronczek and Director of Music John Sherer will lead a musical fanfare of holiday hymns, sharing history, theology, and their personal stories.
For the last half hour, adults and children will come together to raise voices in a merry sing-along.
Nursery care will be available for children two and under.
During our festive evening of music we also want to remember those in need this season. We encourage everyone attending "The Music and Meaning of Advent" to bring a food or clothing item(s) for donation to the Consumer Choice Food Pantry or the Share Shop of the Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center. The Social Service Center is looking, in particular, for holiday and ready-to-eat food items as well as winter clothing items for our guests experiencing homelessness.
RSVPs are appreciated--to help facilitate planning for childcare and food and beverages--and can be done online.
"The Music and Meaning of Advent" is hosted by the Academy for Faith and Life and the Children and Family Ministry Committee.

Fourth Church a Gun-Free Zone By action of the Session, Fourth Church has joined with other houses of worship in declaring its worship space--and entire campus--a gun-free zone. People on our property are offered a safe place to worship God, find tranquility for prayer, and interact peacefully with others for fellowship, learning, working, and meeting. Fourth Church also works for a peaceable city and country. God calls all of us to live out the gospel as agents of reconciliation, participating in God's project to build God's reign on earth by urging all people to put down their weapons, strengthen community, and honor the value of the lives of all who are part of the human community, as each is loved by our Creator. More information about the gun-free zone policy is posted on the Fourth Church website. back to top |
