May 2023 Newsletter

Congratulations to our Graduates!

Dear Students,

Last month, we had the opportunity to recognize the many accomplishments of our graduate and professional students and celebrate their important contributions to our community. Here are a few highlights:

  • Four PhD candidates from WashU were inducted into the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society (see feature below)
  • The Graduate Student Senate hosted its 28th Annual Graduate Research Symposium with over 80 posters. You can review the full list of presenters and awardees here
  • The aforementioned events and several others were part of our National Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week celebration. Well over 800 students participated in these events!

For those of you graduating, I congratulate you on your achievement. On May 15, during the Commencement Festival, the Office of the Provost and The Graduate Center will host a special area for our Graduate and Professional Students at Beaumont Pavilion (the outdoor stage in the Quad, just west of North Brookings). We have special gifts for you to celebrate your recent accomplishment, so be sure to stop by between 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. if your schedule allows!

I’d like to thank the director of The Graduate Center, Jessica Cissell, and the entire team who support our graduate and professional students and programs within The Graduate Center and the Office of the Provost for all their outstanding efforts over the past year.

In closing, all the best wishes for a productive (and relaxing!) summer. We look forward to engaging with you though the summer.

Warm regards,

—Vijay K. Ramani, vice provost for graduate education and international affairs
