Luck of the Irish Raffle

March 26, 2024

Dear Members,

We are delighted to share the names of the 3 very lucky winners of our "Luck of the Irish" raffle, whose winning ticket stubs were drawn before a large in-person and virtual audience after the last lecture of our 2023-24 Series, Wed., March 20, at the Wyndham Newport Hotel.

Please join us in congratulating:

Edward A. Johnson - $3,000 Grand Prize

Marie A. Magee - $2,000 2nd Prize

Mary "May" Hunnefeld - $1,000 3rd Prize

As shared in the letter all members of record received in mid-January, along with a book of raffle tickets, proceeds from the fundraiser will ensure we have a strong close to the 2023-24 Fiscal Year, which ends on March 31.

As shared in that letter, proceeds from the "Luck of the Irish" fundraiser will help defray expenses related to our three core initiatives:

  • Operating & enhancing our Lower Thames Street Interpretive Center
  • Maintaining & beautifying the circa 1828 Barney St. Cemetery, the final resting place of many of Newport's earliest Irish immigrants
  • Producing our popular Lecture Series, which just concluded its 22nd successful season

This was our first-ever "big" raffle, and we are delighted with the broad-based support this vital fundraiser received from the membership.

"Luck of the Irish" has generated over $16,500 in profit (after paying out the cash prizes and misc. expenses). In addition to the revenue raised by raffle-ticket sales, we received over $2,100 in non-raffle-ticket gifts from thoughtful and generous members. Wow!

We are very grateful to ALL the 250+ Members and Friends of the Museum who purchased 1 or more raffle tickets and/or made an

outright donation to the fundraiser!
