WKU to recognize graduates on Dec. 9
WKU’s five academic colleges will recognize nearly 1,000 fall 2022 graduates in three ceremonies on Dec. 9 at Diddle Arena. WKU will confer 967 degrees – 19 doctoral, 177 master’s, three specialist, 717 bachelor’s and 51 associate – as well as 69 undergraduate and 22 graduate certificates. The schedule is: 8 a.m., Potter College of Arts & Letters, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences; 11 a.m., Ogden College of Science & Engineering, Gordon Ford College of Business; and 2 p.m., College of Health and Human Services.
WKU senior finds passion for research
The decision to come to WKU was a “no-brainer” according to Tristan Skipworth, a senior from Scottsville who graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry on Dec. 9. “The biochemistry degree at WKU includes the most courses to prepare for the MCAT exam,” Skipworth explained. “I chose WKU because I knew it would give me the best undergraduate experience and set me up for success better than any university in the state.”
CLIMBING HIGHER
The Kentucky Nonprofit Network recently featured research by Dr. Tricia Jordan and Dr. Allie McCreary from WKU’s School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport in the College of Health and Human Services. The researchers sought to understand the information sources and challenges faced by Kentucky’s nonprofit leaders as they navigated the complex pandemic landscape. Learn More
Spotlight: Tyler L. Hunter
In honor of National Adoption Month, WKU graduate Tyler L. Hunter expressed how grateful he is for the professionals and supporting staff that care for the children in foster care across the state. Hunter is an Advisory Board Member for the LifeSkills Center for Child Welfare Education and Research.
WKU Habitat chapter members to volunteer in North Carolina
WKU’s Habitat for Humanity campus chapter will send a volunteer group to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the week of December 11-17 to assist the local Habitat for Humanity Affiliate with various projects as part of Habitat’s Collegiate Challenge.
Kentucky to the World adds location at Innovation Campus
Today, Kentucky to the World (KTW) announced its new location in the Collaborative SmartSpace at the Innovation Campus at WKU. “Kentucky to the World’s new home will allow us to showcase the vibrance of Bowling Green’s community, economy and workforce,” KTW President/CEO Shelly Zegart said. “Our goal is to inspire talented people to come from beyond our borders to find their futures–and stories about those futures–in Bowling Green and Kentucky.”
Department of Music Holiday Concerts
Here's a reminder about this weekend's holiday concerts.
The WKU Symphony will present Holidays on the Hill at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Van Meter Hall. Special guests are the WKU Symphonic Band and the Southern Kentucky Choral Society. Tickets are $15 at the door or online.
Winterfest, A Choral Celebration!, featuring Treble Chorus, University Singers, WKU Chorale, The TrebleMakers and The RedShirts, will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4754 Smallhouse Road.
The WKU Tuba/Euphonium Studio will present the second annual Bowling Green TubaChristmas at 4 p.m. Sunday at the J.C. Penney Courtyard in Greenwood Mall. Rehearsal will begin at 1 p.m. in Music Hall on WKU's campus.
Children's Theatre production set for Friday and Saturday
The Department of Theatre and Dance will present Happily Ever After? at 4 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre. Tickets for the Children’s Theatre production are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
View from the Hill
The African American neighborhood known as Jonesville that was dismantled in the 1960s to make way for the expansion of WKU’s campus lives on in an exhibit at the Kentucky Museum. WKU’s Amy Bingham talks to some of the community scholars who helped bring the stories of Jonesville to life in this week’s View from the Hill.
