Photos from the María Dolores Gaitán Concert

Sunday, December 3, 2022

The Pilgrim Center at the Nombre de Dios was an intimate setting for an audience of almost 100 people in attendance. The St. Augustine Music Festival was honored to be included as a co-sponsor of this event and look forward to welcoming Maria again next year in this series leading to the honoring of the American Revolution in 2026.

This was the first opportunity for us to feature the Mastriani grand piano, recently gifted to the St. Augustine Music Festival. From the gentle strains of the music of Debussy, through Iberian musical forms of Succari and Albeniz and to a finale of Korsakov's Scheherazade, the music danced from the keys of the piano to the ears of the audience. Brava!

Many thanks to the sponsors below for enabling this free concert in St. Augustine.

A Message from the SAMF Board Chair, Nell Seymour Toensmann

Thank you to all of you who have responded to our requests for donations to the St. Augustine Music Festival. Every donation - regardless of how large or how small - enables us to move closer to realizing the SAMF Mission:

"to produce, perform, and promote a world-class traditional contemporary classical/chamber music experience to a diverse audience in an accessible,

welcoming, and uplifting environment to enhance the quality of life

within the community through the inspiring power of music."

Because our concerts are offered free to the public, SAMF funding requests will continue as we pursue more donors and sponsors to enable us to continue in this wonderful tradition begun 17 years ago. Won't you join us?

And don't forget: Donations received this year

can be deducted from your 2022 taxes!

And a big Thank You to the individuals who have responded to our request to become members of the SAMF Board of Directors! This is a very big commitment as we move forward in 2023 to not only provide our regular schedule of concerts at the end of June, but to also provide additional concerts at other times of the year. If you have considered joining us, but hesitated to respond to our initial request, you can read more about the board responsibilities below, from the previous newsletter.

And I will need your help in making sure that SAMF will move strongly into their 17th year and beyond offering free concerts to the public in the sacred space of the Cathedral Basilica.

Moving Forward... Will you consider becoming a Member of the Board?

In the previous two issues of this newsletter, you have been thanked for your support and participation and invited to become donors and sponsors for our upcoming concerts in 2023. Just as important as receiving financial support, we are also looking for additional board members to join us on this journey.

Are you willing to commit your time, which includes monthly board meetings, usually on a Saturday morning, and attendance at our concerts and inviting others to accompany you?

Are you willing to commit your special talents that will support SAMF in performing the everyday tasks needed to ensure that we are covering all the details necessary to provide the smooth running of professional concerts to the public?

Are you willing to commit your treasure? It is not necessary to become a Diva or Virtuoso donor as a member of the board, but we expect that our members are making a financial commitment, as well as reaching out to family, friends and others to support our outreach and concerts.

If you would like to consider becoming

a member of the St. Augustine Music Festival Board,

please contact me: nelltoensmann@gmail.com or 904-484-4960.

Reminder to: Our loyal and Devoted SAMF Audience,

We are challenged as we move forward in our planning for SAMF2023. As we pursue grants, foundation and business support to ensure that we can again provide another great concert series free to the public, individual support is crucial to closing our budget gap. Below are suggested giving levels and we encourage you to choose the level you are able to support.

If you can, and believe in the SAMF Mission to “Entertain, Educate and Elevate” through the power of music, here is how you can support the largest FREE classical/chamber music festival in the USA.

Volunteer opportunities with SAMF....

Non-profit organizations survive because of the volunteers that believe in the organization and are willing to make sure that it continues to survive and thrive. This is also true of the St. Augustine Music Festival.

The SAMF Board consists of volunteers who believe that providing exceptional music to the public for free is important. And we believe that performing the concerts in the sacred and beautiful space that is the Cathedral Basilica has provided an experience unlike any other. As a result, we rely on volunteers to fill many roles during the year in order to provide these concerts to the public.

  • Volunteers to serve on and support the SAMF Board,
  • Volunteers to help with fundraising and outreach to potential concert sponsors.
  • Volunteers to assist during the June concerts and other events that may take place from time to time during the year.

Can we count on you to volunteer?
