Evening of Dreaming and Campaign Kickoff
On a beautiful golden evening on September 28th, we held our annual Evening of Dreaming. Alongside over a hundred participants, we were able to share our next big steps for Centro.
Calli is the center of our campaign. This word means “home” in Nahuatl, an indigenous language in Mexico; and it encompasses the intricacy of the project Centro is aiming for. At Centro, we want to create a space for a growing Latinx community full of dreams, strength and aiming for safety and equity.
Thanks to Hedi Rudd Photography for these amazing photos.

Mercadito Comes Back
After being absent for two years, Mercadito came back on August 18th, reinvigorated with more strength and variety than ever. This community effort brings fruits and vegetables from Central and South America, Latinx street food, local honey, Colombian barista coffee, and more.
Mercadito is more than vendors gathered each Thursday from 4 pm to 7pm.
Mercadito is a community on the Southside of Madison sharing their cultural heritage and culinary traditions. This is a weekly place for encounters with friends, a space for the community to feel free to express their culture safely, and an opportunity to add extra ingredients to your table.

Mercadito will run through until December 15th. When weather conditions turn rougher, Mercadito will take place inside Centro’s Plaza. Come and join this weekly feast!

Help us bring joy this year to children in the Tres Reyes Celebration.
|
|
This unstoppable Centro activity has more than 30 years of tradition. Each January, Centro brings joy to the community by giving each kid a gift. The Tres Reyes celebration is a tradition rooted in the epiphany, and over centuries it has been a distinctive Latin American festivity.
Even under pandemic circumstances in 2021, Centro coordinated the delivery of a record number of 800 gifts to children and 70 bikes across Dane County homes.

Family Support Workshops
In October, the Family Support team will provide free workshops to the community with the goal of informing attendees about their rights, precautionary measures, and responsibilities in labor and driving matters.
These workshops address the Latinx community's need to be able to navigate in an informed way a staggering system that can be overwhelmingly confusing.

[Re]Generación engages Dane County youth in culture, identity, and the arts to strengthen their voice in our community, as a way to grow, learn, and give back.
[Re]Ge is also happy to announce a new co-facilitator joining the team. Jazmine Zuniga-Paiz is a graduate of both West High School & UW-Madison and led her first [Re]Ge meeting on September 22nd. She enabled a discussion among young Latinx students about establishing healthy boundaries.

The Workforce Team held its first 2022 Employment Connection Day on September 15th during El Mercadito, a successful event that brought together 10 Centro employer partners and over 40 community members and Caminos training graduates seeking for sustainable career opportunities.
Our Employment Connection Day was more than a job fair, it created a space where job seekers felt comfortable in a community environment and embraced their full selves while engaging with employers.

|
Our employer partners also shared that the event provided a unique opportunity to connect with the community while recruiting talent. Explore Progreso here.
