We're taking our weekly Jazz at Four communion service outdoors to the Michigan Avenue courtyard this Sunday afternoon, August 13!

Come be part of worship by the fountain, enjoy the music of the Lucy Smith Quartet, and share fellowship with other worshipers while surrounded by summer's beauty.

Songs from Vacation Bible School
This Sunday the children who attended Vacation Bible School this week wiill sing at the very beginning of the 9:30 a.m. service. The preschoolers through fifth graders will sing some of the songs they learned during their VBS adventure to ancient Rome, where the Apostle Paul helped them to learn the story of the early church and to explore our call to be disciples.
 
You won't want to miss their toe-tapping presentation!

New Officer Recommendations Needed
We're still in need of recommendations for officer positions with Fourth Church or Chicago Lights.
 
Nominating forms for the offices of Elder, Deacon, Trustee, and Chicago Lights Board are available online. Paper forms are also available at the church in the pew racks and literature racks.
 
Why not take a moment in the coming week to send your officer suggestions our way!

threeGrocery Bags and Snacks
Ongoing Donation Needs
Do you have any large-size grocery or department store shopping bags lying around? Our Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center has an ongoing need for donations of such bags. These bags are used by Social Service Center guests who visit the downstairs Share Shop for clothing and the Food Pantry.

Another ongoing need for donations is for individually wrapped snack items to be included in the Meals Ministry bag lunches that are distributed weekly over the lunch hour on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Anderson Hall. That translates into a need for 900 snack items a week!

We also have one seasonal need this week and next: school supplies for our Chicago Lights Tutoring students. A list of items needed for this Women at Fourth-organized School Supply Drive is posted online.

All items can be left at the church reception desk. Please label snacks "Meals Ministry" and supplies "School Supply Drive."

Thank you for any assistance you can offer in helping to meet the needs of our neighbors!
youthYouth Shareholders Report
Come Hear about Cuba, Detroit, and Montreat 
This Sunday, August 13 we will hold our annual Youth Shareholders Meeting.

All who have supported the youth's summer trips to Cuba, Detroit, and Montreat are encouraged to come hear the students share their experience. A light lunch will be served.

All who plan to attend are asked to RSVP to Rocky Supinger.

There are several ways to get involved in the mission and ministry of Fourth Church. See below for just some of the details!

Current Volunteer Needs
Taizé service greeters and liturgists on the fourth Friday evening of each month in Buchanan Chapel
 
Ushers for Jazz at Four, the 4:00 p.m. communion service on Sundays in the Sanctuary

Urban Farm volunteers on Saturdays during open volunteer hours, 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the Farm (444 W. Chicago)

Unless otherwise noted, to sign up for volunteer opportunities or to learn more about them--as well as additional volunteer opportunities--stop by Coffee Hour on Sunday morning or email Robert Crouch, Director of Volunteer Ministry.
