Dear River Forest residents,

As the holiday season gets into full swing, let’s all take a moment to say thank you for things in which we are grateful. Personally, I would like to thank our staff for their tireless work and commitment to the Village. I would also like to express my gratitude to our Village Board of Trustees and Village Clerk, Commissioners, Board and Committee members who volunteer a great deal of their time and expertise for the betterment of our community. And last but not least, I extend my appreciation to the fantastic grocery stores and small businesses that help make River Forest a great place to live and work. As you begin holiday shopping, please consider shopping locally - especially on Small Business Saturday, which is November 26. For a list of River Forest small businesses, please click here.

For those who would like to help save a life this holiday season, Trinity High School will be sponsoring a blood drive in partnership with the Rotary Club of Oak Park River Forest on Wednesday, November 30 from noon until 6 p.m. The event will be held in the Sister Michelle Germanson Athletic Facility foyer. Click here to register!

Finally, I would like to take a moment to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. As a reminder, Village Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.

Sincerely,

Cathy Adduci, Village President
Village of River Forest

Holiday Parking

The Overnight Parking Ban was lifted Tuesday, November 22 and will run through Monday, November 28 at 9 a.m. No overnight waivers will be required during this time period. For residents that want to request permission to park a vehicle in the street outside of the previously mentioned dates, call the Police Records Division, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at 708-366-8500 ext. 345, or use the 24/7 non-emergency line (708-366-7125) to make a request. Residents can also stop by Village Hall for a free refrigerator magnet that keeps parking, and other important contact information within reach. More information can be found here.

Congratulations

Dr. Tamara Bland!

Dr. Tamara Bland, interim dean of Borra College of Health Sciences and associate professor of nursing at Dominican University, is the recipient of the 2022 Nurse Influencer Award from the American Nurses Association of Illinois. This honor recognizes an exemplary nurse who has influenced the practice of nursing through education, advocacy, policy or practice. Congratulations to Dr. Bland!

Holiday Tree Trimming

Join the River Forest Park District on Thursday, December 1 at either 4 or 5 p.m. for its annual Tree Trimming! Community businesses, organizations and neighborhoods are invited to sponsor a tree, which will be on display along Lake Street in Memorial Parkway. A tree with lights will be provided and sponsors can hang their own decorations. To learn more, click here.

Changes to Holiday Bazaar

Oh what fun it is to decorate for the holidays and give festive gifts! Christ Episcopal Church is inviting River Forest residents and their friends to come and shop with them for the holidays! This year, instead of its annual bazaar, tables will be displayed with homemade baked goods, handmade crafts and assorted holiday goodies during the months of November and December. Shopping opportunities are available on Sundays after the 10 a.m. service or by calling the Church Office at 708-366-7730, Monday through Friday, after 1 p.m. - if you would like to shop on a weekday. Items are reasonably priced and payment is based on the honor system.

Triton Holiday

Festival of Trees

Join Triton College for its annual Holiday Festival of Trees on Thursday, December 8 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m., along the front of the A and B buildings. Participants will enjoy beautifully lit holiday trees along Triton’s Circle Drive, in addition to hot chocolate, music and treats. Learn more here.

Decorate Safely

Decorating your home, yard or office is a fun, festive way to celebrate the holiday season, and with a little planning, you can enjoy your decorations all season long. Follow the Fire Department safety tips here to help keep your family and friends safe around your decorative displays.

Kiwanis Light Up the Night Event

Save the date for 'Light up the Night' on Saturday, December 17. The Kiwanis of River Forest and Oak Park sponsor this annual event and have assembled luminary kits for purchase. Each kit is $10, with net proceeds benefitting local youth. Included are 10 white paper bags, 10 plain wax candles, sand, instructions and helpful hints. Recommended spacing is five feet between lights, with one kit lining one side of the sidewalk. However, many residents like to line both sides of the sidewalk, in which case two kits would be necessary. Kits are now available for porch pickup here. Cash or checks addressed to the Kiwanis of River Forest and Oak Park can be dropped into the mail slot to the right of the door with the supplied envelope. Don't forget to grab one sandbag for each kit purchased!

Fall Leaf Collection

The last day for the Village’s annual Fall Leaf Collection Program will be Friday, December 9. Please remember to rake only leaves onto the street by 7 a.m. on your collection day, leaving the curb exposed, where Village crews will collect them. Grass clippings, brush or any other type of yard waste mixed with your leaves will not be collected. Learn more here.
