Structural Inequities Amplify Homelessness Challenges for Pregnant People in Washington, DC

New research conducted with Washington, DC, residents who experienced homelessness during pregnancy sheds light on the intersection of homelessness, pregnancy and racial inequities. The study, led by the School of Nursing’s Christina Marea, PhD, and published in the journal Health Equity, is grounded in a reproductive justice framework.

Cognitive Decline Preceding Alzheimer’s Diagnosis Lead to Credit Card, Mortgage Delinquency

In the years prior to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another memory disorder, credit scores begin to weaken and payment delinquency begins to increase, concludes new research led by the School of Health’s Carole Roan Gresenz, PhD. The findings, released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, show consistent deterioration in these financial outcomes over the quarters leading up to diagnosis.

Experimental Therapy Shows Promise in Pancreatic Cancer Clinical Trial

Clinicians at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center led by Benjamin Weinberg, MD, reported promising preliminary findings based on outcomes in the first six patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer enrolled in a phase 2 clinical trial of the experimental drug BXCL701 in combination with the immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab (Keytruda). The study, based on research in Louis Weiner, MD’s, lab, was presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Clinical Oncology.

Zeng Selected for NASEM Committee on Reducing Health Disparities

The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) tapped Wu Zeng, PhD, associate professor in the School of Health's Global Health Department, to join an ad hoc committee to examine the relationship between innovation in developing novel therapies and unmet needs associated with US disease burden. The Closing Gaps Between Clinical Therapy Innovation and Unmet Population Health Needs committee will recommend strategies to spur and facilitate increased innovation to address unmet needs and reduce health disparities.

As of June 3, the Wisconsin Avenue shuttle will no longer stop at 3300 Whitehaven Street NW or 2233 Wisconsin Avenue NW. The shuttle will continue to stop at 2115 Wisconsin Avenue NW and a new stop at 37th Street NW and Calvert Street NW. Learn more about the shuttle stops and schedule.
