A Message from our Founder & Presidents
Dear Friends of Adopt a Golden Atlanta,
As we embrace June's warm and joyful days, we begin with a heartfelt tribute to a cherished member of our AGA family, Howard Shore. Howard's unwavering dedication to senior Goldens was truly inspiring. We have established the Howard Shore Memorial Senior Golden Fund in his memory. This fund will continue his mission of providing extra care and love to the older dogs who need it most. Howard's legacy lives on in the joy and comfort these senior Goldens receive, and we are deeply grateful for his contributions.
This month is filled with exciting events and milestones highlighting our commitment to our Golden Retrievers and their forever homes. Our Meet and Match Day at Hotel Indigo Vinings on June 2nd is a perfect opportunity for prospective adopters to meet our lovable Goldens and discover their new best friend. We’d love to see you there if you're in the area!
We’re also thrilled to partner with Kendra Scott for a special National Best Friend’s Day celebration on June 9th. Join us for a fun shopping event where 20% of the proceeds will benefit Adopt a Golden Atlanta. It’s a wonderful way to treat yourself and support our mission.
This month, we’re introducing a fantastic fundraiser with Kelli Wilke’s Portrait Club, offering fine art photography sessions for you and your pups. It’s a unique way to capture beautiful memories while contributing to our cause.
Additionally, our volunteer teams are in need of gently used items to help care for our Goldens. If you have any harnesses (all sizes), bowls, beds, or toys that you no longer need, please consider donating them to us (plus many additional items listed below). These items play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort and well-being of our dogs while they await their forever homes.
We’re constantly amazed by the generosity and support of our community. Your donations, volunteer efforts, and participation in our events significantly impact the lives of these wonderful dogs. Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us create golden dreams come true.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Patti & Lauren

Gently Used or New Donation Items Needed for AGA
We often get questions asking how you can help. One of the most impactful ways to support AGA, outside of monetary donations, is by donating new or gently used items.
Essential donations include cozy dog beds, durable leashes, collars, and harnesses to ensure their comfort and safety in the care of our dedicated fosters and volunteers. Additionally, contributions of high-quality dog food, treats, and grooming supplies such as brushes and shampoos are always welcomed.
These generous donations help create a nurturing and loving environment for the dogs as they transition into foster homes, significantly enhancing their well-being and adaptability. Your kindness and support make a world of difference in the lives of these wonderful dogs.

Orphan of the Month:
Lizzy
| |
My friend Tianna and I have both recently retired from the puppy making business. The best place to start beginning our new lives is with AGA! Except for one big NO to cats, I am a happy girl and I sure love to play and be with people of all sizes. Dogs too are on my OK list but riding in the car and going for a swim are things I’d almost rather do than anything else! I am 6 years old and I think that is the perfect age for a golden!
|
I know all about house manners, walking with a leash and good behavior. The other day I spotted something that looked like it needed to be chased, it was called “DEER”. I sailed right over the foster’s 4 foot fence so now I must have a 6 foot one! I was like an airplane taking off! Please help me get my retirement off to a great start if you are looking for a new family member. Just a reminder though, I am committed to the “Zero Cat”, “No short Fence” policies! Kisses from Lizzie

Remembering our dear friend, Howard Shore
We are saddened by the passing of a cherished member of our AGA family, Howard Shore, and we mourn his loss.
Howard was a deeply valued volunteer and an integral member of the AGA Board of Directors. He was committed to helping senior retrievers who needed support and a little extra dose of love and attention.
In tribute to his devotion to these precious seniors, we have established the Howard Shore Memorial Senior Golden Fund - designed to continue his work in helping senior dogs.
Any donation made to this Memorial Fund will be designated for those special dogs, thereby helping AGA to continue to honor Howard and fulfill his passion for helping these older pups.
We remember Howard with great fondness and a deep appreciation for all that he did for AGA and senior dogs. It's not hard to picture a senior retriever resting peacefully against his generous Golden heart!
Rest in peace, dear friend.

Check Your Dog
Once a Month on the 14th!
| |
It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home.
Facts about Cancer in Dogs
Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.
| |
Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog.
We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Monthly checks mean extra pets and love for your dogs while bringing peace of mind to you! If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.
| |
Now how exactly do you do this?
Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.
