Diocesan Resolution to Address Climate Change

The overall church process will have three components:

  • Conduct a facility needs assessment to identify the extent of carbon emissions produced.
  • Explore different options to reduce, offset, or eliminate carbon emissions, and the benefits (pros) and challenges (cons) associated with each option.
  • Consider available programs and funding to pursue carbon neutrality.

The Diocese Commission on the Environment will commit to:

  • Providing education, guidance, and resources to assist congregations and other diocesan organizations as they develop their needs assessments.
  • Conducting ongoing research to identify potential financial resources to carry out the measures identified in the facility needs assessments to promote carbon neutrality while preventing undue financial burdens on congregations.

Steve C. is the liaison between the Diocese and Trinity regarding the process. Anyone who is interested in assisting Steve in exploring ways Trinity can affordable reduce our carbon emissions, please contact him at christensen668@sbcglobal.net

Announcements

The West Coast Collaborative

Episcopal School for Ministry

Announcing a new, combined ministry of the Dioceses of Northern California, El Camino Real, and San Diego. We provide innovative lay and diaconal formation based in the curriculum of the Iona Collaborative at the Seminary of the Southwest. Most of the coursework occurs online.

The School is currently offering formation for lay preachers. In January 2023, we will start a program for those preparing for ordination to the Vocational Diaconate. Over time, we will continue to expand program offerings in support of lay and ordained ministries.

We are currently accepting applications for a course opening in the winter of 2023 to prepare individuals to apply for a Lay Preaching license. We are forming cohorts of students in Spanish and English and seeking adult learners of all ages and educational backgrounds who are actively involved in ministry in their congregations and demonstrate gifts in lay leadership. Participants must be members of a congregation within one of our three partner dioceses.

If you have further questions or to request an application for the Lay Preaching program, contact the Northern California dean:

Join our supply priest, Rev. Karen Lawler on Zoom this Advent in the spirit of storytelling, using materials from A Sanctified Art and other sources to explore God’s presence in all times and places. Together we will reflect on artistic presentations of the Advent-Christmas story, name the sources of our hope, and explore how we are called to partner with God to generate and sustain hope today.

A number of us from Trinity have participated in these

Blue Holidays Service Sunday

Not everyone experiences the holidays as a joyful time. For those who have experienced loss, are struggling with care-giving or find the demands of this season overwhelming the holidays can be a particularly painful time. As a result, churches around the world have adopted the practice of having a “Blue Christmas” service during the Advent season.

This year St. Paul’s will be offering an interfaith Blue Holidays service, focusing on the healing power of sound, music and shared song. This service is designed to provide a  space of calm quiet and healing amidst the holiday hustle and bustle. The service will include a sound bath experience, shared song, reflective readings and an invitation to remembrance.
