Executive Exchange
Join us for the WSAE 2019 Executive Exchange: An Association CEO Retreat, June 2-3, 2019, at Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center in Stevens Point. Designed specifically for an intimate group of association CEOs only, this retreat will focus on leadership and planning for the future and serve as a venue for sharing ideas with built-in time for roundtable discussions on current topics of interest. Maximum of 25 spots available. Please note that this event is scheduled separately, although in conjunction with, the annual Spring Outing.

Spring Outing
The WSAE Spring Outing is the perfect mix of education of fun! Develop your network among like-minded people with similar, yet different, experiences, who are also investing in themselves, moving forward and contributing to their industry. The Spring Outing will kick off with an afternoon of educational programming, followed by the Participants & Pairings Party. In addition to the golf tournament held on Day 2, the Outing will offer non-golfers the opportunity to visit sponsors out on the course for games and refreshments, and to engage in a three-hour workshop. The event will conclude with a reception, offering one last chance to network as we celebrate golf award winners.

Location
And we heard you - Based on member feedback, we are excited to be holding the WSAE Executive Exchange and Spring Outing at a new location that is centrally located for all our members. Most members are within a short 1-2 hour drive from Stevens Point, where we are partnering with the Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as hosts SentryWorld and Holiday Inn Stevens Point - Convention Center.

PS. Have you heard about SentryWorld's famed Flower Hole? You won't want to miss the opportunity to check it out!

Professional Development
Help with the professional certification
WSAE, through partnership with the Michigan Society of Association Executives (MSAE), is offering professional certification exam preparation courses. Be sure to mention your affiliation with WSAE to receive a discount on registration!

CAE prep course
The CAE preparation programs incorporate study guides, reading comprehension questions, flashcards and practice tests. Three different CAE preparation courses are available and are  designed to offer the personalized support candidates need to be prepared for the CAE exam. Each course option offers a full-time facilitator to help candidates establish a systematic study format and provide assistance when you need it.

The current curriculum covers strategic management; planning and research; leadership; administration; knowledge management and much more! And the best part is, the full course offers approximately 10 CAE hours that can be applied to the Spring Exam offered online and with recorded phone conversations so candidates can set their own schedule. The preparation course for the Spring 2019 exam begins January, so register today!

Certified Meeting Professional prep course
A virtual prep course for the Certified Meeting Professional exam begins in March. For over a decade, MSAE has successfully helped candidates achieve their CMP designation through a classroom setting. They now offer a five-month online Spring course and are ready to help meeting planners nationally! This in-depth learning experience, which aligns with the most current CMP International Standards, will help prepare candidates for the CMP Examination.

Register online at www.msae.org or (517) 332-6723.
IOM Summer Institute
Institute for Organization Management is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's professional development program for non-profit executives.  For over 95 years, Institute has educated association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders across the country through its national program, highly rated curriculum and high caliber instructors. Thousands of executives have attended Institute sites across the country to strengthen their management skills, learn industry best practices, and gain a broad national perspective from peers. Institute has helped them build stronger organizations, become stronger business advocates and better serve their members. In addition, you will earn points toward your CCE or CAE certification as Institute's curriculum is directly tied to the bodies of knowledge of both the American Society of Association Executives and the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Midwest Summer Institute will take place at UW-Madison, June 9-13, 2019. The early registration deadline is April 19, after which enrollment increases $200.

Upon completion of the Institute program, graduates receive the IOM recognition which allows them to use the letters "IOM" in public mention and professional correspondence.  The IOM recognition signifies the completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and commitment to the industry.

For more information about Institute's curriculum, sites, and dates, visit the Institute web site and Prospective Student Toolkit  to help you gain insight into the program.

DISCUSSION FORUM

Member onboarding collateral: What works?
Does anyone have new member (or renewing member) materials that they'd like to show off? We're looking for some new ideas. Welcome letter? Check. List of benefits? Check. Plaques and certificates? Check. Want to find a way to package all of this together or develop something brand new. What do you use that works? Examples appreciated.
Third party vendor for retargeted ads/marketing?
One of our association partners wants to integrate retargeted ads into its marketing mix. The idea being that if someone visits the Facebook page or the website, elsewhere they'd see call-to-action ads that encourage them to join the association or learn more. Has anyone used a firm or third-party vendor that manages this process for them and provides analytics for measuring success?
Graphic designer recommendations?
Is anyone working with a quality graphic designer that takes on small projects? We typically have a design in mind (structure/format) but need a professional to add a theme and, well, make it look professional! I'd like to find someone that would be interested in a number of small projects and therefore willing to work on price.

Build a Journey to Yes Using Marketing Automation
Technology creates paradoxes that are as upside down as Alice's adventures in Wonderland. Aimee Pagano's recent 30 on Thursday webinar, Survival Kit for Building Your Buyer's Journey, brought this message home. Machines are giving us the ability to understand and communicate with members more personally than ever before. If you seek to deeply engage constituents (And, who doesn't?), marketing automation software offers tools to lift those relationships to a new level.

Labor Department issues new overtime rule
The new threshold for which overtime pay will be required will be $35,308 under new Department of Labor rules, a significant increase from the current $23,660 rate. A 60-day comment period remains open.
ASAE urges Congress to repeal benefits tax
ASAE is urging associations to sign on to a letter asking Congress to repeal the unrelated business income tax on certain employee benefits provided by associations and other tax-exempt organizations. The tax on nonprofit fringe benefits, such as parking and mass transit assistance, was implemented as part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
ICANN to remove price caps on .org domains
Associations and other tax-exempt groups could find it a lot more costly in the future to renew .org top-level domain names if a new contract proposed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is approved. ICANN, the entity that currently manages over 180 million domain names and four billion network addresses on the Internet, has proposed lifting price caps on .org and .info domains.
H.R. 1 needs greater clarity, ASAE says
ASAE and other associations are increasingly concerned with a provision in House Democrats' sweeping campaign finance bill that could be detrimental to associations that operate political action committees (PACs). The legislation, called the "For the People Act" or H.R. 1, is a compendium of ideas that Democrats have championed in recent years to promote transparency in campaign financing, strengthen government ethics and eliminate barriers to voting.
There is still time to register for American Associations Day
American Associations Day, ASAE's legislative fly-in, will take place March 28-29 on Capitol Hill. At this year's fly-in, ASAE advocates will urge Congress to repeal a 21 percent tax on the value of so-called fringe benefits - such as free parking or mass transit assistance - that nonprofits provide to employees.
